Japanese citizens do not need a visa to enter Dubai. The UAE foreign ministry lists Japan as visa free with a free visa on arrival, up to 90 days in total. Japan's own MOFA page says 30 days. Because the two disagree, read the days on your entry permit and plan from that.
Two official pages, two day counts
This is the main thing Japanese travellers need to know.

The Japanese page is dated and the UAE sources were read in , so the UAE list is newer. We cannot tell which number an immigration officer will give you at the counter. Look at the permit and work from the date printed there. If it shows fewer days than you need, do not wait for the last day to extend.

Japan's page also describes a 10 day grace period after the 30 days. We found no such grace period in the UAE sources we read, so extend on time.
Japan's travel advice for the UAE
Japan's MOFA lists the whole UAE at danger level 2: avoid non-essential and non-urgent travel. The notice is dated and the page was marked valid on . It lowered the level after a memorandum signed on 18 June on ending fighting between the United States and Iran. If you must travel, it asks you to use several sources of information, stay away from military sites and not photograph them, even from a distance.
Moving to the UAE
A Japanese citizen who takes a job or sets up a company leaves the visit visa behind and moves to a residence visa, filed from inside the UAE. The UAE residence visa page lists the routes. Do not work on the visit visa. Your employer or sponsor starts the file, and we can prepare it with them.
Passport and entry checks
- Passport with at least 6 months left; Japan's MOFA says entry can be refused with less.
- Keep your entry permit. You need the date for an extension.
- Work or a long stay needs a UAE residence visa, not the visit visa.
If your family does not hold a Japanese passport
