If you live in the UAE and your passport needs a visa for Japan, you apply at the Japan Visa Application Centre run by VFS Global. The eVISA costs AED 75, a single entry visa AED 80, plus the VFS service fee. Indian nationals pay AED 20 for the visa. Processing takes a minimum of 8 to 10 working days, so apply at least a month ahead.

Who can apply in Dubai

The VFS centre is clear: you must be "a valid resident of UAE" to lodge your application here. Tourists in Dubai on a visit visa cannot apply. You also apply within 90 days of travel, not earlier.

Your emirate matters too. Dubai and Northern Emirates residents go to the Dubai centre. If your residence visa was issued in Abu Dhabi, VFS runs a separate Japan centre there. Both work on behalf of the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Japan in Dubai, which decide the visa.

If your passport is visa-exempt for Japan, you do not need any of this. Check your nationality on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan visa page before you book an appointment.

Japan visa fees at VFS Dubai

Visa type Visa fee Indian nationals VFS service fee
eVISA, single entry AED 75 AED 20 AED 110
Single entry visa AED 80 AED 20 AED 100
Multiple entry visa AED 160 AED 20 AED 100

Some nationalities are listed as gratis, so they pay no visa fee at all, only the VFS charge. The fee list on the VFS page shows which ones.

What Dubai agencies charge

Dubai visa agencies publish about AED 220 to AED 950 for Japan visa help (published prices of 5 Dubai agencies, checked ). Most are starting prices. One lists the government visa fee as included, while others do not say. Ask whether the VFS fee is inside a quote before you compare.

eVISA or sticker visa

The eVISA is the lighter option for a single holiday. It is one entry, valid for three months after issue, and there is no sticker in your passport. You get a Visa Issuance Notice and show it on your phone or tablet at Japan immigration. Keep the battery charged and a screenshot saved, because the officer needs to see it on a screen.

The single entry sticker visa suits people who prefer a visa in the passport. The multiple entry visa costs AED 160 and is meant for people with a reason to go back several times, such as regular business trips. The consulate decides who qualifies for it.

Documents for a Japan tourist visa from Dubai

The VFS checklist for your visa type is the final word. Expect to be asked for:

  • Passport with blank pages, and your old passports if you have earlier visas.
  • UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, both valid.
  • The Japan visa application form, filled in and signed.
  • A recent passport photo in the size VFS states.
  • Bank statements in your name.
  • A letter from your UAE employer, or a trade licence if you run your own company.
  • Flight booking and hotel reservations, with a day by day plan of your stay.
  • An invitation letter and guarantee papers if a person in Japan is inviting you.

Families apply with one form per person, children included.

Processing time

VFS states a minimum of 8 to 10 working days from submission. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays do not count. That means two full weeks on the calendar at the very least. Busy holiday periods can add more.

Because you can only apply within 90 days of travel, there is a window. Applying in the first half of it gives you time to fix a problem if the consulate asks for more papers.

Why Japan visas get delayed or refused

  • Weak or unclear funds. Statements with sudden large deposits raise questions.
  • No clear plan. A vague itinerary, or hotels that do not match the dates on the form.
  • Residence ending soon. If your UAE visa expires during or right after the trip, the consulate may doubt your return.
  • Form mistakes. Names that differ from the passport, missing signatures or blank fields.
  • Inviter papers missing. If someone in Japan invites you, their documents must be complete.

The consulate does not always explain a refusal. Correct the weak point before you apply again.

How it works with us

Send a copy of your passport and UAE residence visa on WhatsApp, or use the form on this page, with your travel dates. A visa adviser checks whether you need a visa at all, then which type fits: eVISA, single or multiple entry. You get one total price before you pay anything. The team fills in the form, reviews your bank and job papers, books the VFS submission and follows the file until the result arrives. You collect your passport or receive the eVISA notice. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, not VFS and not the embassy. The Embassy and Consulate General of Japan decide every application.

The visa fee and the VFS service fee are not returned after a refusal. Before you pay, your adviser tells you in writing what share of our total, if any, comes back if Japan refuses the visa.
