A newborn visa in Dubai is a family residence visa for a baby born in the UAE. Parents who live here have 120 days from the birth to get the birth certificate, passport, Emirates ID and residence done. At GDRFA the residence costs AED 200 plus AED 10, AED 10 and AED 20, with no medical test. After day 120 a daily fine starts and the baby cannot leave the country.

The 120-day clock

The countdown starts on the date of birth, not on the day you get the birth certificate. The u.ae page on having a baby lists four things to finish inside it:

  1. the birth certificate,
  2. the baby's passport,
  3. the Emirates ID,
  4. the residence visa.

They come roughly in that order, because each one needs the one before it. A baby cannot get a residence visa without a passport, and the embassy will not issue a passport without the birth certificate.

The late fine: two official numbers

This is where official sources disagree, so read both.

Source What it says after day 120
u.ae, having a baby AED 100 per day, and the baby will not be allowed to exit the country
ICP violation fine list Newborn registration listed among items charged AED 50 per day

Sources: u.ae having a baby page and ICP fines service page, checked .

Media pages quote other daily rates by emirate, which we could not confirm on any government page. If you are already late, look up the baby's file on the GDRFA fines inquiry and pay what it shows. Our UAE overstay fine guide explains how daily fines are counted for adults.

Birth certificate attestation

The hospital birth certificate is not enough on its own. Per the u.ae page, it is attested by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Your marriage certificate must be attested as well, and translated into Arabic if it is not in Arabic. MOFA lists AED 150 per personal document for its step.

If your marriage certificate was issued abroad and never attested, that is the slowest piece. It needs the chain in the country of issue first. Our marriage certificate attestation page covers it.

Passport first

Book the embassy or consulate as soon as the attested birth certificate is in your hands. Read your embassy's own page for its form and photo rules. Embassy queues are outside anyone's control in Dubai, and they eat into your 120 days.

GDRFA has no separate newborn page. The family residence page also lists an AED 500 fee inside the country, and no official page we read says whether it applies to a baby born here. Media reports citing ICP put a single newborn residence fee at AED 350 for families filing through ICP. We have not seen it on an ICP page, so treat it as reported and check the amount shown when you file.

Health insurance is a condition of family residence, so add the baby to your policy or buy one before you file. See health insurance for a residence visa.

What Dubai agencies charge

Published cost guides from 2 Dubai firms put a newborn's residence at about AED 1,200 to AED 3,500, counting insurance, Emirates ID, typing and the passport (checked ). The spread comes mostly from the insurance.

Documents checklist

  • Attested birth certificate.
  • Baby's passport.
  • Recent colour photo of the baby on a white background.
  • Attested marriage certificate, translated into Arabic if needed.
  • Sponsoring parent's passport, residence and Emirates ID.
  • Salary certificate or employment contract.
  • Tenancy contract and a water or electricity bill.
  • Health insurance for the baby.
  • Father's no objection letter if the mother is the sponsor.

Processing time

Once the passport is ready, GDRFA lists 48 hours for the family residence. ICP lists 2 days. The baby's Emirates ID goes in with it. The real time is the embassy's passport queue plus attestation.

What delays a newborn file

  • Names that do not match. A spelling on the birth certificate that differs from the passport stops everything. Check at the hospital.
  • Unattested marriage certificate. Fix this during the pregnancy if you can.
  • Your own visa ending soon. The baby's residence cannot outlast the sponsor's. If yours is near expiry, see family visa renewal and renew yours first.
  • No insurance. ICP lists valid health insurance as a requirement.
  • Mother sponsoring without the father's consent letter. GDRFA asks for it.

How it works with us

Message us the birth date, the birth certificate and your residence on WhatsApp, or use the form on this page. A visa adviser counts the days you have left and checks the attestation and passport status. You get one total price for the baby's residence and Emirates ID, confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. When the passport arrives, the team files the residence, follows it to approval and confirms the Emirates ID. If you are past day 120, the adviser checks the fine first so there are no surprises. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. GDRFA or ICP decides the application.

If the authorities refuse the file, they do not return the government fees. Before you pay, you get in writing what part of our total, if any, would come back to you.

Tips

  • Start the attestation in week one. It is the step most parents leave too late.
  • Twins need two passports, two residence files and two Emirates IDs.
  • Older children joining from abroad follow different rules. See our children visa page.
  • Once the Emirates ID is issued, our Emirates ID guide covers renewals.

How to get a residence visa for a baby born in Dubai

  1. Collect the birth certificate

The hospital issues it. Check every name against both parents' passports before you leave.

  2. Attest the birth certificate

It is attested by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and then by MOFA. Attest and translate the marriage certificate too if needed.

  3. Get the baby's passport

Apply at your embassy or consulate in the UAE. This is the step you control least, so start early.

  4. File the residence and Emirates ID

Submit through GDRFA, or ICP if your visa is from another emirate, with the passport, photo and health insurance.

Questions people ask

How many days do I have to get my baby's visa in the UAE?

120 days from the date of birth. The u.ae page on having a baby says that window covers the birth certificate, the passport, the Emirates ID and the residence visa, so all four should be done inside it.

What is the fine for a late newborn residence visa?

Two government sources give different numbers. The u.ae page says AED 100 per day after the 120 days. ICP's fine list puts newborn registration among items charged AED 50 per day. Check the real amount on the GDRFA fines inquiry before you pay.

Can my newborn leave the UAE without a residence visa?

The u.ae page warns that once the 120 days pass without the papers, the baby will not be allowed to exit the country until it is sorted. Inside the window the baby still needs its own passport to travel.

Does a UAE birth certificate need attestation for the baby's visa?

The u.ae page says the birth certificate is attested by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Your marriage certificate must also be attested and translated into Arabic if it is in another language.

Does a newborn need a medical test for the residence visa?

No. The medical fitness test is only for family members aged 18 and over. A baby goes straight from passport to residence and Emirates ID.

How much does a newborn visa cost in Dubai?

At GDRFA the residence is AED 200 plus AED 10, AED 10 and AED 20 delivery, and the Emirates ID is AED 100 per year plus AED 100. Add the attestation, the passport fee set by your embassy and health insurance.
