A Schengen visa appointment in Dubai is booked online with the visa centre your destination country uses: VFS Global for most countries, BLS International for Spain. You can file no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before you travel. You attend in person, give fingerprints, hand over the file and pay the EUR 90 adult visa fee plus the centre's service fee.
Which centre handles your appointment
The booking site belongs to the centre your country has hired, so start there.
| Destination | Centre in Dubai | Where you book |
|---|---|---|
| Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria | VFS Global | VFS site for that country |
| Italy | VFS Global, The Gate, DIFC (Zone C) | VFS Italy site |
| Spain | BLS International, I Rise Tower, Barsha Heights | uae.blsspainvisa.com |
| France | VFS Global (reported) | France-Visas portal, then the centre |
| Portugal | VFS Global, Wafi Mall (reported) | Confirm on the VFS Portugal page |
| Greece | Unclear: VFS Global or another operator | Confirm with the Greek Embassy |
Sources: German, Italian, Swiss, Austrian and Dutch mission pages and the BLS Spain site, checked . France, Portugal and Greece could not be confirmed on a government page.
If you live in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain, several countries send you to their Abu Dhabi centre instead. Germany, Italy and Austria split it this way. For Italy, the Abu Dhabi centre is run by BLS, not VFS.
When to book: the 6 months to 15 days rule
EU rules let you lodge a short-stay application up to 6 months before your trip. The latest is 15 days before. Inside that window, the real limit is slot supply.
- Summer trips. School holiday dates are when most UAE families travel. Start looking as soon as you know your dates.
- Leave space after the appointment. The consulate has 15 days to decide and may take up to 45. If your appointment is 16 days before the flight, you have almost no margin.
Spain's BLS page also says decisions usually come within 15 working days. Switzerland can take up to 14 more days in consultation cases.
The reported intake pause
In , Gulf News reported that VFS Global Dubai paused Schengen intake during the regional conflict, then reopened UK applications while only returning passports for several Schengen countries. We could not confirm the current position on an official page. The German and Swiss mission home pages showed no suspension notice when we checked on . Italy's consulate in Dubai posted that services resumed gradually from , with availability "subject to change". Look at your country's notices page before you book.
What to bring on the day
- Printed appointment confirmation.
- Passport, plus copies of the photo page and earlier Schengen visas.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, original and copy.
- The signed application form for your country. For Germany, the VIDEX printout.
- Photos to the size on the checklist.
- Travel insurance certificate, EUR 30,000 minimum cover.
- Flight reservation, hotel bookings, a day-by-day plan.
- Recent bank statements and an employer letter or salary certificate.
- The fee in the form your consulate accepts. Germany takes cash only. Spain asks for the visa fee in cash.
Keep everything in the order of the checklist. Staff check it against their list at the counter.
What happens inside the centre
- Check-in. Arrive a little before your time with the printed confirmation.
- Document check. A staff member goes through your file. Missing papers may mean you have to rebook.
- Payment. You pay the visa fee and the service fee. Paid extras may be offered. Ask what each one is before you agree.
- Biometrics. Your fingerprints are scanned and your photo taken for the Visa Information System.
- Receipt. Keep it. It has your reference for tracking.
The centre only collects the file. It cannot tell you if the visa will be granted. The consulate or embassy decides.
Centre hours and small details
BLS Spain in Dubai opens Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. Submissions run 09:00 to 15:00, passport collection 15:00 to 17:00. It closes on weekends and embassy holidays. VFS hours differ by country and are on each country's VFS page.
The Netherlands asks you to book directly with VFS and to avoid intermediaries. One appointment per applicant. Austria asks every applicant, including children of any age, to lodge in person.
Mistakes that cost you the slot
- Booking with the wrong country, then being told to apply elsewhere.
- Forms with names that do not match the passport.
- A UAE residence visa that runs out too soon after the trip.
- Insurance printouts without the policy dates.
- Arriving late and losing your place in the queue.
How it works with us
Message us on WhatsApp or use the form here with your passport copy, residence page and trip plan. A visa adviser confirms which country you should apply to and which centre that means. You get one total price before paying. The team fills the form, prepares the checklist file in the right order, and books your slot where the centre allows it. If a country asks you to book in your own name, we walk you through it. You go to the appointment yourself, since biometrics need you there. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, not VFS Global or BLS International. The consulate makes the decision.
After a refusal, the consulate does not return the visa fee, and the centre keeps its service fee. Your adviser puts in writing, before you pay, whether any part of our total comes back.
