Visa-free countries for UAE residents

Two countries we could confirm on official pages waive the visa because you hold UAE residence: Georgia, for any nationality, and Armenia, for 111 listed nationalities.

Only two countries we checked on official government pages let you in without a visa because you live in the UAE. Georgia admits anyone with a UAE visa or residence permit for 90 days in any 180. Armenia exempts nationals of 111 listed countries whose UAE residence is valid six months from entry, for up to 180 days a year. Anything else depends on your passport.

Your passport decides, not your Emirates ID

Search "visa free countries for UAE residents" and you get long lists of places. Most of them were built for a passport, often the UAE passport or a Western one, and then relabelled for residents. That is why an Indian or Filipino expat can follow such a list and get stopped at check-in.

A residence permit only matters where the destination says so in writing. A few do. Most do not mention UAE residence at all, and then your nationality alone sets the rules.

So read every list with one question: does the country's own government page name the UAE residence permit? If not, the list is about passports.

Countries where UAE residence is the basis

Country What you need Stay Source
Georgia A UAE visa or residence permit, any nationality 90 days in any 180 Embassy of Georgia in the UAE
Armenia Passport from one of 111 listed countries plus UAE residence valid 6 months from entry Up to 180 days within one year Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia

Checked on the official pages on . Armenia's rule is temporary and runs from to .

Georgia in short

Georgia's rule is the broadest we found. It names no nationality and no minimum residence validity. Holding the UAE status is enough. Details and edge cases, such as a cancelled residence, are on the Georgia visa for UAE residents page.

Armenia in short

Armenia is generous but has more conditions. Your passport must be on its list. India, the Philippines, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kenya and many more are on it. Bangladesh, Nigeria and China are not. Your residence document also has to show certain details in Latin script. Read the Armenia visa for UAE residents page before you rely on it.

Visas you get because you live in the Gulf

These are not visa-free. You still apply and can be refused. But the visa exists only for GCC residents, and it is usually simpler than the normal route.

Country Resident visa Key condition
Oman GCC Resident Visa, single entry, 4 weeks, extendable by 1 week Your profession must be on Royal Oman Police's list
Qatar GCC Resident Visa (A2) on Hayya, QAR 100, single entry Residence valid 6 months; job title must match your permit
Saudi Arabia Tourist eVisa for GCC residents Apply online or through the embassy

Where UAE residence does not help

Turkey is the clearest case. Its foreign ministry gives a conditional e-visa to some nationals who hold a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit. The UAE residence permit is not on that list. An Indian resident of Dubai with no US or UK visa needs a regular Turkish visa. Read Turkey visa for UAE residents for the detail.

Russia is another. Its unified e-visa is open by nationality only, with no residence rule.

Visa-free by passport, often confused with residence

These come up in resident lists but depend on the passport you hold:

  • Thailand: 30 days for tourism for nationals of 60 countries and territories from , including the UAE, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UK and the USA. The old 60-day scheme was revoked.
  • China: 30 days visa-free for ordinary passports of more than 40 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and most of Europe, plus the UK and Canada, until . India, the Philippines and Egypt are not on it.
  • Turkey: UAE passport holders are visa-free for 90 days in any 180.
  • Georgia: UAE citizens can stay one full year.

Names on other lists we could not confirm

Montenegro, Albania, Serbia, Mexico and Azerbaijan often appear on "visa free for UAE residents" lists. We did not find their rules on an official government page when we checked. That does not mean the claims are false. It means you should read the rule on the government's own site, or ask the embassy, before you pay for flights.

Before you book

  1. Find the destination government's own visa page.
  2. Look for the words "United Arab Emirates" and "residence permit". If they are missing, your passport sets the rule.
  3. Check how long your residence must stay valid. Armenia wants six months from entry.
  4. Count past days in the country if there is a 90 or 180-day cap.
  5. Take your Emirates ID on the trip. Airline staff in the UAE will ask for it.

Questions people ask

Which countries are visa-free for UAE residents?

On official government pages we confirmed two: Georgia, which lets any holder of a UAE visa or residence permit stay 90 days in any 180, and Armenia, which exempts nationals of 111 listed countries whose UAE residence is valid six more months, for up to 180 days a year.

Is Montenegro visa free for UAE residents?

Many travel sites say so, but we could not confirm it on an official Montenegrin government page. The same goes for Albania, Serbia, Mexico and Azerbaijan. Until you see the rule on the government's own site, check with the embassy or your airline before you book.

What are the visa-free countries for UAE residents with an Indian passport?

With a valid UAE residence, Indian passport holders can visit Georgia visa-free for 90 days in 180, and Armenia for up to 180 days a year if the residence has six months left. Thailand's 30-day exemption also covers Indian passports, but that comes from the passport, not the residence.

Does my UAE residence count for Turkey?

No. Turkey's foreign ministry names only Schengen, US, UK and Ireland visas or residence permits for its conditional e-visa. A UAE residence permit is not on that list. Emirati citizens are visa-free for 90 days in any 180.

Are Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia visa-free for UAE residents?

Not visa-free, but easier. Each runs a visa you get because you live in the GCC: Oman's GCC Resident Visa, Qatar's A2 visa on Hayya and Saudi Arabia's tourist eVisa for GCC residents. You still apply and meet their conditions.

Why do visa-free lists for UAE residents disagree so much?

Most mix two things: countries open to your passport and countries open because of your UAE residence. A list that suits a British expat is wrong for an Egyptian one. Check the destination government's page for your own nationality.
