If you live in the UAE and your passport needs a Schengen visa, you apply from Dubai on your UAE residence. The fee is EUR 90 for an adult. The consulate decides in about 15 days, sometimes up to 45. You file with the country where you will spend the most time, through its visa centre in Dubai, between 6 months and 15 days before you fly.
Who needs a Schengen visa from Dubai
The visa depends on your passport, not on your UAE residence. Emirati citizens travel to the Schengen area without a visa, and so do many Western and Latin American passport holders. Many expats in Dubai do need one. Check your nationality on the EU visa list before you book anything.
You can only apply from Dubai if you are legally resident here. The EU rule is plain: third-country nationals apply at the consulate that covers the country where they live. A valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID are the base of every file. Someone on a UAE visit visa applies from home instead.
Schengen visa fees for UAE residents
| Applicant | Visa fee |
|---|---|
| Adult, 12 and over | EUR 90 |
| Child, 6 to 12 | EUR 45 |
| Child under 6 | Free |
| Citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus | EUR 35 |
| Citizens of Cabo Verde | EUR 67.50 |

The fee is set in euros. At the centre you pay the local equivalent, and each consulate has its own payment rule. Germany takes cash only. The Netherlands takes cash in dirhams or a card charged in euros. The visa centre fee is extra. VFS Global and BLS International do not show their Dubai service fees on a page we could read, so ask the centre or your adviser for the current amount.
What Dubai agencies charge
Dubai visa agencies publish about AED 150 to AED 1,200 for help with a Schengen tourist visa (published prices of 5 Dubai agencies, checked ). Where a page lists what is included, the EUR 90 consular fee is not part of it. Some prices are for document help only and exclude the appointment.
Which country to apply to: the main destination rule
This is where many Dubai files go wrong. You do not pick the embassy with the shortest queue. Article 5 of the Visa Code sets the order:
- The country you will visit, if you visit only one.
- If you visit several, the one where you spend the most nights.
- If the nights are equal, the one linked to the main purpose of the trip.
- If that is unclear too, the country where you first cross the Schengen border.
Your hotel bookings and itinerary have to match the country you filed with. A file sent to Spain with five nights in Paris and two in Madrid is a likely refusal.

Documents most Schengen consulates in the UAE ask for
Each country publishes its own checklist, but the core is close to identical:
- Passport issued in the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with two blank pages (Visa Code rule).
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, valid well past your return. The minimum differs: 1 month for Switzerland, 3 months for Germany and Austria.
- The country's application form, signed.
- A recent photo to the ICAO standard.
- Travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 cover, valid in all Schengen states for the whole stay.
- Flight reservation and hotel bookings for every night.
- Bank statements for recent months. Germany asks for at least 3.
- Employer letter or salary certificate with your position, salary and approved leave dates. Business owners send a trade licence.
How to apply, step by step
- Fix your itinerary and work out your main destination.
- Fill the form for that country online. Germany uses VIDEX.
- Book your slot with the right centre. The Schengen visa appointment in Dubai guide explains how booking works.
- Go in person with your originals. Fingerprints and a photo are taken, and you pay the fee.
- Track the file and collect your passport.
Processing time and the cascade rule
The consulate has 15 days to decide. It can extend that to 45 days if it needs more checks. The visa lets you stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Frequent travellers can move up to longer visas. Under Article 24 of the Visa Code, after 3 visas used lawfully in the last 2 years, you can get a 1-year multiple entry visa. After that, a 2-year visa, then a 5-year one. GCC nationals from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman have adapted rules, but there is no special cascade just for UAE residents. An expat in Dubai falls under the general rule unless a decision for their nationality covers them.
Common refusal reasons
- Wrong consulate. The main destination does not match the file.
- Weak ties to the UAE. A residence visa expiring soon after the trip, or no leave approval.
- Bank balance that does not fit the trip. A sudden large deposit before filing raises questions.
- Insurance below EUR 30,000 or not covering all Schengen states.
- Bookings that do not cover the whole stay.
A refusal letter gives the reason. Fix that point before you file again.
How it works with us
You send your passport copy, UAE residence page and trip dates on WhatsApp or through the form on this page. A visa adviser works out your main destination and checks which documents your nationality and job need. You get one total price before you pay anything. The team prepares the form, the cover letter and the booking file, books the visa centre slot where it can, and tells you what to bring on the day. You attend the centre yourself because fingerprints are taken in person. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. The consulate of the country you apply to makes the decision.
If the visa is refused, the consulate keeps the visa fee. Before you pay, your adviser tells you in writing which part of our total, if any, comes back after a refusal.
