Dubai visitor visa processing time is short on paper. GDRFA, which issues Dubai visas, lists 48 hours on its tourist and visit visa pages. ICP, for the other emirates, lists 2 days. Emirates airline says about 2 to 4 working days for the visas it arranges. All of these count from a complete file, so the real wait depends on getting the documents right the first time.

The GDRFA and ICP pages we read show one fee and one listed time per service, with no paid fast lane. GDRFA charges AED 200 for a 30-day single entry tourist visa and AED 300 for 60 days, plus 5% VAT. Express is an agency product: two Dubai agencies publish express surcharges of about AED 126 to AED 300 over their normal price (published prices of 2 Dubai agencies, checked ).
Entry windows: how long you have to use the visa
A fast visa is no use if it expires before your flight. Each route gives a fixed window from issue to entry.
- ICP visit visa: enter within 60 days of issue.
- Visas arranged by Emirates: valid 60 days from issue to enter. Its transit visas: 30 days.
- Residence-abroad visa for certain nationalities (14 or 60 days): enter within 30 days of issue.
- 5-year multiple entry tourist visa (GDRFA): enter within two months of issue, extendable by two months.
- GCC resident entry visa: u.ae says the permit is valid 30 days from issue, ICP says 60. Use the shorter one to be safe.
ICP lets you extend the entry window once, before you arrive, for AED 50.
What slows a file down
- Missing documents. GDRFA gives 30 days to add anything missing, then the request is cancelled. The clock stops while you collect it.
- Photo rejected. A shadow or grey background sends the file back. See Dubai visa photo requirements.
- Sponsor questions. On relative visits, a salary below the ICP tier or unclear proof of relationship leads to a query.
- National ID copy for passports that need it, such as Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.
- Security checks. No official page sets a time for these. Some files simply take longer.
- Weekends and public holidays. The listed times are working time. Emirates says plainly to count international working days.
Documents to have ready before the clock starts
- Passport scan, valid 6 months from your entry date.
- Photo to the ICAO rule.
- Health insurance valid in the UAE.
- Return or onward ticket.
- Sponsor papers for your route (relationship proof, salary, residence details).
When to apply before travel
- Fix your flight dates.
- Work back from the entry window of your route. For an ICP visit visa, applying more than 60 days ahead risks expiry.
- For airline visas, Emirates asks you to apply at least 4 international working days before arrival.
- For GDRFA and ICP routes, apply a week or more ahead if you can. That leaves room for one document fix inside the 48 hours or 2 days.
- Track the application after you submit. Our Dubai visa status check guide shows where.
Refusal and delay: the difference
A delay is a file on hold. A refusal is a decision. Most hold-ups come from the list above and clear once you send the missing item. A refusal ends that application and the fees follow the authority's refund rules. Read Dubai visa rejection reasons for what leads to one.
After you land: other clocks to know
- Extension: GDRFA 48 hours, ICP 2 days. Apply before your stay ends. See Dubai visa extension.
- Visa cancellation: a tourist visa can only be cancelled before entry, unless it is linked to a status change. GDRFA lists 48 hours, ICP 2 days. Details on visit visa cancellation in the UAE.
- Transit: if you only change planes, the 48 or 96-hour Dubai transit visa is issued through the airline.
Tips
- Do not book non-refundable hotels until the visa is issued.
- Send all documents in one go. Each extra round trip costs time.
- If your plans may slip, choose a route whose entry window covers the delay.
