Most expats in the UAE need a visa for China and apply in person at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center, Level 3, WAFI Mall, Dubai. Holders of ordinary passports from 46 listed countries, plus Canada and the UK, can visit visa-free for up to 30 days until . That rule follows your passport, not your UAE residence.
First question: does your passport need a China visa
China runs a temporary 30-day visa-free policy for ordinary passports of certain countries. It covers tourism, business, visits to family and friends, exchange trips and transit, for stays of no more than 30 days.
From the Gulf, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain are on the list. So is most of Europe. Canada and the UK were added from . The policy is set to end on . If your trip falls after that date, check the Chinese foreign ministry notice again before you book.
Here is the part many people miss. Your UAE residence visa plays no role. An Indian, Filipino or Egyptian engineer who has lived in Dubai for ten years still needs a China visa, because their passport is not on the list. The same goes for most of the large expat nationalities in the UAE.
Where UAE residents apply
The Consulate General of China in Dubai sends applicants to the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in WAFI Mall, Level 3. You fill in the form online, then bring the printed form and your papers to the centre. The centre collects the file and the fees and passes it on. The consulate decides.

What Dubai agencies charge
Dubai visa agencies publish about AED 195 to AED 780 for China visa help (published prices of 7 Dubai agencies, checked ). These are starting prices. At least one lists only its own service fee as included, which means the visa fee comes on top. Read what each quote covers.
Documents for a China tourist visa from Dubai
The centre's checklist for your visa type is the one to follow. A typical tourist file has:
- Passport valid well beyond the trip, with blank pages.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID, plus a copy.
- The printed online application form, signed, with a photo that meets the centre's rules.
- Flight booking in and out of China.
- Hotel bookings for every night, or an invitation letter from a host in China.
- For business trips, an invitation from the Chinese company.
Some agencies sell a short single entry sticker visa that needs an invitation letter. That tells you how often an inviter's papers come up for China. If a friend or company invites you, get their letter and ID copy early.
Processing time
The official pages we checked do not give a fixed number of days. Media reports mention regular and express services, but we have not confirmed those times on an official page. Ask the centre about regular and express times on the day you submit, and leave a good margin before your flight.
Keep in mind that the centre keeps your passport while the visa is processed. If you need to fly elsewhere in that time, do the China application first or after.
Common reasons for delays and refusals
- The online form does not match the passport. Spelling, birth dates and old passport details must be exact.
- Photo rejected. The centre is strict on size and background.
- Missing invitation papers for business or family visits.
- Gaps in the itinerary. Nights in China with no hotel or host.
- Wrong visa type. Applying as a tourist when the plan is a trade fair or meetings.
How it works with us
Start on WhatsApp or with the form on this page. Send your passport copy, UAE residence visa and travel dates. A visa adviser first checks if your passport is on the 30-day visa-free list, because then you may not need us at all. If you do need a visa, the adviser picks the right type and gives you one total price before you pay. The team fills in the online form with you, checks the photo and bookings, and prepares the file for WAFI Mall. You then collect the passport with the visa. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. The Consulate General of China decides the application.
Fees paid to the visa centre are not refunded after a refusal. Before you pay us, your adviser writes down what part of the total, if any, you get back if China refuses the visa.
Tips before you go

- Want somewhere with simpler rules? Compare the Singapore visa for UAE residents or the visa-free countries for UAE residents.
