Visa-free; we file extensions and family visas

Last updated

Maltese citizens do not need a Dubai visa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the Republic of Malta as visa free, with a free multiple entry visit visa on arrival, valid six months, for up to 90 days in total. We take over when the visit needs more.

What the entry rule means in practice

The free visa is for visiting. The stay is counted in total, up to 90 days, so a second trip a few weeks later uses the same allowance. Keep a note of your arrival dates. The passport should be an ordinary one with six months left on the day you arrive, which is the standard UAE requirement for visitors.

Malta's embassy and consulate in the UAE

Malta has two missions here. The Embassy of the Republic of Malta is in Abu Dhabi, and the EU consular protection directory lists it with English and Maltese as spoken languages.

The Consulate General of Malta in Dubai serves Maltese citizens in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Its page lists passport applications, birth, marriage and death registrations, document legalisation and authentication of signatures. It also helps in a lost passport case, a detention or a medical emergency. It asks Maltese citizens who live in its area to register with it, so it can reach them quickly.

Extending your stay

  • Application: AED 100
  • Each extension: AED 500
  • Processing listed by ICP: 2 days
  • Ceiling for a tourist visit: 120 days in total
  • Fine per extra day: AED 50

Relatives who hold other passports

Your Maltese passport does not carry a parent, partner or friend of another nationality. The usual way for a resident host is the ICP visit visa. The sponsor needs AED 4,000 a month for a first-degree relative, AED 8,000 for a second or third degree relative and AED 15,000 for a friend. A refundable guarantee of AED 1,000 applies to a single entry visa. The Dubai family visit visa page lists the sponsor documents.

Work and residence

A job needs a sponsored work permit and a residence visa, filed by the employer. Moving from a visit to a residence file while you are inside the country is possible. The routes are on the UAE residence visa page.

The other direction

Malta has its own entry rules for people who live in the UAE and want to visit. The Malta visa from Dubai page covers the visa centre route, fees and documents for that case.

Time and what slows a file

Arrival is instant and free. Extensions are listed at 2 days by ICP. If you mean to work or settle, say so before anything is filed, since an extension will not change your status to residence.

Two offices, two jobs

Go to the Dubai consulate if you live in Dubai or the Northern Emirates and need a passport application, a civil registration or a signature authenticated. The embassy in Abu Dhabi works alongside it. Neither office issues a UAE visa or an extension. Those come from ICP or GDRFA, which is where our files go.

Keeping count of days

The 90 days are a total, not a per trip allowance. Someone who spends a month in Dubai in spring and returns in autumn has used those first days already. Write the arrival dates in your phone, and ask us to check the count before you book a long stay.

How it works with us

Send your passport page and your plan by WhatsApp or the form on this page. A visa adviser decides whether you need nothing, an extension, a visa for a companion or a residence file, and gives you one total price before filing. After you agree, the team prepares and submits the request and follows it until it is decided. This is a private visa service. ICP or GDRFA decides.

If a request is refused, the authority keeps its fee. The adviser tells you in writing, before payment, what part of our total, if any, would come back.

Get one total price

For a Dubai extension, family visa or residence for a Maltese passport holder: send the traveller's passport country, where they are now and the dates. A visa adviser replies with the right visa, the documents and one total price, fees included, before anything is filed or paid.
