Portuguese citizens do not need a visa for the UAE. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the Portuguese Republic as visa free, and the Emirates airline page states a free, multiple entry visit visa on arrival, valid six months, up to 90 days in total. The searches that bring people here are often about the other direction: a Dubai resident who needs a visa to Portugal. We cover both.

A stay beyond 90 days is not free. ICP lists a total of 120 days for tourist visits, and an extension costs AED 100 for the application plus AED 500. Overstaying costs AED 50 a day, so count your days before you drift past the limit.
Portugal's own advice for its citizens in the UAE was out of our reach. The Portuguese foreign ministry portal and the embassy site did not open from our server. A search result for its travel advice says the UAE authorities do not recognise Portuguese temporary passports, even for leaving the country. We could not read that page, so check it before you rely on an emergency document.
Portuguese citizens living in the UAE
Search results for the Embassy of Portugal in Abu Dhabi say citizens apply for and renew passports in person at the embassy. Gulf News reported that the VFS passport collection centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai only hand over new passports and take no applications. Both are secondary reports, so look at the embassy's consular section before you go. If your passport is about to expire, start early, since the UAE wants six months of validity on entry and your airline checks it.
For UAE residents who need a Portugal visa

What Dubai agencies charge
Dubai agencies publish about AED 325 to AED 390 for a Portugal visa service (published prices of 3 Dubai agencies, checked ). That is their own fee. The government and VFS lines come on top, so ask for them separately.
Timing and biometrics
Applications are made in person because biometrics are taken. VFS gives a minimum of 15 calendar days at the Embassy of Portugal and recommends applying at least 3 weeks before travel. Book the appointment early; see Schengen visa appointment in Dubai for how slots work.
Papers that trip people up
VFS flags one rule for UAE residents. If your residence visa was renewed and the passport has no sticker, you must provide a copy of the online document that certifies the residence, and a copy of your Emirates ID. Send us the passport pages and residence papers before you book a slot.
