Domestic workers on a golden visa

Yes, a golden visa holder can sponsor domestic workers. ICP says it follows the usual UAE rules, dubai.ae says there is no limit on numbers, and no golden-only fee exists.

A UAE golden visa holder can sponsor a maid, nanny, driver or other domestic worker. ICP says this happens under the normal UAE regulations, and the dubai.ae golden visa page says the number of helpers is unlimited. No official page shows a golden-specific fee or timeline, so the worker's visa costs and runs the same as for any sponsor.

That is the honest short version. The golden visa changes who may sponsor and how many. It does not create a special maid visa.

What the official pages actually say

There are only two lines on this topic, and you should know both word for word.

  • ICP Golden Residency guide: golden holders may sponsor domestic workers "in accordance with the applicable regulations and procedures in the UAE".
  • dubai.ae golden visa page: golden holders get "sponsorship of unlimited domestic helpers".

Nothing else. GDRFA's golden service pages do not mention domestic workers. MOHRE runs domestic worker contracts and permits, and its pages carry no golden visa section that we could read. So every step after "you may sponsor" follows the general domestic worker process.

Golden holder versus your domestic worker

Point You (golden holder) Your domestic worker
Permit type Golden residence Domestic worker residence
Term 10 years Standard term, not golden
Sponsor None needed You
180-day stay abroad rule Exempt, per GDRFA Not stated as exempt
Grace period after cancellation 180 days Not covered by the golden rule
Workers you may sponsor Unlimited, per dubai.ae Not applicable

The table matters most for people who travel a lot. Your own golden permit only lapses if it expires while you are abroad. Your maid's permit is not covered by that line. If the household spends long periods outside the UAE, check your worker's position before you go.

Fees you can count on

We could not find an official MOHRE or GDRFA fee page for the domestic worker visa itself. Blogs give figures that disagree with each other, so we do not quote them. What is published officially:

Item Official fee
Medical test, Dubai, 24 hours AED 270
Medical test, Dubai, 6 hours or Smart Salem AED 700
Medical test, Dubai, 2 hours AED 1,020
Emirates ID AED 100 per year of residence, plus AED 100 smart service fee
Domestic worker permit and residence Not published on a page we could read

What Dubai agencies charge

There is no reliable published range for sponsoring a domestic worker as a golden holder. The prices we found mixed recruitment, visa and agency fees in different ways, so they cannot be compared. Our maid visa cost page tracks this as the figures firm up.

What to have ready

The licensed centre gives you its full list. Start with:

  • Your passport and golden residence details or Emirates ID
  • The worker's passport, valid well beyond the visa term
  • A recent passport photo of the worker
  • The job title (maid, nanny, cook, driver and so on), since contracts are by role
  • Your address in the UAE, because the worker lives with or works for your household

If you also sponsor family on your golden permit, keep those files apart. The family rules are on golden visa family and do not mix with the staff process.

The steps

  1. Decide on the role. A nanny visa and a driver visa are both domestic worker visas, but the contract states the job.
  2. Pick a licensed Tadbeer centre. MOHRE licenses these centres for maids, nannies, drivers and other domestic staff. They handle recruitment, visas and contracts.
  3. Agree the domestic worker contract. The centre prepares it for the role you chose.
  4. Entry permit or status change. A worker abroad enters on an entry permit; a worker already in the UAE changes status.
  5. Medical test and Emirates ID. Book the medical fitness test, then the Emirates ID.
  6. Residence issued. The worker's residence is issued with you as the sponsor.

Full detail on each stage is on the maid visa in Dubai page.

Processing time

No official timeline for the domestic worker visa was published on a page we could read. The medical has set speeds: 24 hours, 6 hours, 2 hours or Smart Salem. The rest depends on the centre and on whether the worker is inside or outside the UAE. Ask for a time estimate in writing before you start.

What goes wrong

  • Worker on a visit visa. A visit visa does not allow work. Start the proper domestic worker visa before the job starts.
  • Unfit medical result. The residence cannot be issued if the medical fitness test fails.
  • Name mismatches. The passport, contract and photo must match letter for letter.
  • Assuming golden perks pass on. The 10 years, the 180-day exemption and the 180-day grace period are written for golden holders and their families.
  • The worker leaves without notice. MOHRE has an absence from work complaint for domestic workers. Do not delay if it happens; the rules set a short window.

How it works with us

DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. We are not MOHRE, GDRFA, ICP or a Tadbeer centre. Message us on WhatsApp or use the form on this page with your golden residence details, the worker's passport copy and the role you are hiring for. A visa adviser works out whether this is a new entry or a status change and lists every paper the licensed centre will want. You get one total price, confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. Our team prepares the file, books the medical and the Emirates ID, and chases each stage until the residence is issued. The authorities approve or refuse it, not us.

If the application is refused, government fees are not paid back by the authorities. Before you pay anything, the adviser confirms in writing what part of the total, if any, you would get back.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Can I sponsor a maid on my golden visa?

Yes. ICP states that golden residence holders may sponsor domestic workers in line with the applicable UAE regulations and procedures. The maid gets a normal domestic worker residence, not a golden one.

How many domestic workers can a golden visa holder sponsor?

The dubai.ae golden visa page says golden holders can sponsor unlimited domestic helpers. ICP does not give a number. You may see a cap in older articles; we could not find it on any current official page.

Is the maid visa cheaper for golden visa holders?

No official page shows a separate or lower fee for golden holders. The worker's visa follows the same domestic worker fee schedule as any other sponsor. The medical test and Emirates ID are priced the same as for everyone.

Does my maid get a 10-year visa because I have a golden visa?

No official page says so. The 10-year term belongs to the golden holder and family members. A domestic worker is sponsored on a domestic worker residence under the standard rules.

Can my maid stay outside the UAE for more than 6 months like me?

GDRFA writes the 180-day exemption for golden residence holders. It does not say the exemption covers domestic workers they sponsor. Treat your worker's permit as a normal one and plan long trips with that in mind.

Where do I apply for a domestic worker visa in Dubai?

Domestic worker visas run through MOHRE and its licensed Tadbeer centres, which handle recruitment, domestic worker visas and contracts for maids, nannies and drivers. MOHRE publishes the list of licensed centres.
