Your UAE residence does not decide the Colombia rule. Your passport does. Colombia's Foreign Ministry lists the nationalities that enter without a visa for short stays, and the text we read does not name UAE residence as a ground for an exemption. We check your passport against that list, prepare the visa file if you need one, and go through your Check-Mig form before you fly.
What the rule says
The rule sits in Resolution 5488 of Colombia's Foreign Ministry, published on the Cancilleria's legal database. Article 3 lists the nationalities that enter without a visa for short-stay activities. In the version we read, the list includes the UAE, Oman, Qatar, the UK and Canada.
Some passports are handled differently. Indian nationals appear in Article 3(C). They enter without a visa only if they hold a residence permit in a Schengen state or the United States, or a Schengen or US visa valid at least 180 days on arrival. Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam sit in the same article. A UAE residence permit is not one of the listed documents.
So the question to ask is simple: is my passport on the list, and if not, do I hold one of the named documents? If neither, you apply for a visa.
The list changes
Cancilleria changes the list by resolution. One resolution removed Israel in July, citing reciprocity, and a later one repealed that change. The page for Resolution 5488 shows three further amendments, to Articles 3A, 3C, 6 and 8. We read the page on . Check the live text before you book.
The tourism visa
If you need a visa, the tourism route is the visitor visa (type V). The Cancilleria says:
- It is valid up to one year.
- The authorised stay is 90 days, and it can be extended by another 90 days.
- The cap is 180 days in any 365-day period from issue.
- It is for leisure, tourism or cultural interest, and it does not allow work.
- You present flight reservations for entry and exit.

If you enter visa-free, ask us about the allowed stay on your passport before you plan more than a few weeks.
What it costs
| Item | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Study fee | Set by visa type and country of application, not refundable | Cancilleria |
| Issuance fee | Set by visa type and nationality | Cancilleria |
| Visa-free entry | No visa fee | Resolution 5488 |
Cancilleria says the study fee is valid only on the day you pay it, and it is not refunded. We could not read a visitor visa amount on the fee page, so we do not quote one. Ask for the figure for your passport before you pay.
What Dubai agencies charge
Dubai agencies publish about AED 360 to AED 1,500 for a Colombia visa (published prices of 3 Dubai agencies, checked ). The range is wide because the products differ. One agency shows a service fee only, with the consulate fee paid on top. Another bundles the government fee. This range is not our price.
Check-Mig
Migracion Colombia asks travellers to pre-register on Check-Mig, an online form with your travel data. You can fill it in from 72 hours before the trip until 1 hour before. Travellers who use a land border post do not file it. Use the same names and passport number as your ticket. We go through the form with you if you want a second pair of eyes.
Documents to have ready
- Passport with enough validity for the whole trip.
- Your UAE residence permit or Emirates ID, to show where you live.
- Flight reservations into and out of Colombia.
- If you rely on Article 3(C): the Schengen or US residence permit, or the visa with at least 180 days left on arrival.
- Hotel booking or the address where you stay.
- Proof of what you plan to do there, such as bookings.
The embassy
Colombia has an embassy in Abu Dhabi that gives consular services, announced by the Cancilleria when it opened. The consulate has its own site at abudhabi.consulado.gov.co, which did not load for us, so we cannot list its services. We did not find a Colombian mission in Dubai.
Steps
- Match your passport to Article 3 of Resolution 5488.
- If you are not on the list, check for a qualifying Schengen or US document.
- Apply on the Cancilleria online platform if you need a visa.
- Book entry and exit flights.
- Fill in Check-Mig from 72 hours before you fly.
Processing time
The Cancilleria pages we read gave no processing time. Agencies publish figures from about 5 business days to 20 days. Treat these as estimates and leave margin, especially before school holidays.
Common refusal reasons
- Applying on the strength of UAE residence alone when your passport is not exempt.
- A Schengen or US visa that has less than 180 days left on arrival.
- No return or onward ticket.
- Names that do not match between the passport, ticket and Check-Mig.
How it works with us
Send your passport page, residence details and travel dates on WhatsApp or through the form. A visa adviser checks which Colombia rule applies to your passport, then tells you if you can fly as you are. If you need the visa, you get one total price before you pay. The team prepares the file, files it online and follows up. You get the visa or an answer by message. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. Colombian authorities decide every visa and every entry.
If the visa is refused, the government fee is not refunded. Before you pay, your adviser tells you in writing what part of our total, if any, comes back in that case.
