A Croatia visa for UAE residents is a Schengen visa filed at VFS Global in Dubai. The adult visa fee is AED 390.27 and the VFS service fee is AED 150.25. VFS quotes an average of 15 working days, longer if the file goes on to the Embassy of Croatia in Qatar. Emirati citizens do not need a visa.

What is different about Croatia

Three details set Croatia apart from other Schengen files in the UAE.

First, the Croatian ambassador to the UAE is seated in Cairo, according to a ministry news item dated , so do not expect a visa counter in Abu Dhabi. Second, VFS Dubai takes the files. Third, VFS says some visa types are sent on to the Embassy of Croatia in Qatar for the final processing. That last step is why Croatia can feel slower than a country decided in Abu Dhabi.

None of this changes who needs a visa. That still follows your passport. UAE residence helps you file here, it does not exempt you.

Appointments and filing window

  • Short stay: book online first. VFS says this has been required since .
  • Long stay: walk-ins are allowed, per VFS.
  • Window for short stay: the Croatian foreign ministry says no more than six months before the trip and no later than 15 calendar days before it. VFS also mentions a limit of 180 days, so use the shorter rule and do not push it.
  • Window for D visas: from 3 months before to 3 months after the residence or work permit start date.

The Croatian ministry says you submit in person and give fingerprints, kept for the Visa Information System for five years. You may fill the form at crovisa.mvep.hr, in English among other languages, and submit the printout with your documents.

Processing time

VFS gives an average of 15 working days. It can extend to 45 to 60 days depending on documents and circumstances. For applications sent to Qatar, VFS says 4 to 5 weeks including logistics is the effective time. Eid, summer, UAE national holidays, Christmas and New Year can add time.

Working back from a summer departure: file in early spring.

Documents

  • Passport valid beyond your return, with blank pages.
  • UAE residence visa and Emirates ID.
  • Signed application form and photo.
  • Travel insurance with at least EUR 30,000 medical cover, which VFS says is mandatory for Schengen.
  • Return flights and a place to stay in Croatia.
  • Bank statements and an employer letter.

Incomplete files risk rejection, per VFS. Check the current VFS checklist for the category.

Common Croatia refusal reasons

  • Nights that favour another Schengen country, so Croatia is not the right file.
  • Island or coastal bookings with gaps between them.
  • Weak funds or no proof of employment in the UAE.
  • Insurance that does not cover the whole stay.
