Visa-free 90 days; we check papers and extend stays

Last updated

Austrians do not need a visa for the UAE. The Austrian foreign ministry gives "Visumpflicht: nein" for up to 90 days in six months, and the UAE ministry lists Austria as visa free. The passport needs six months of validity, and an emergency passport is a problem. We check those details, help with extensions, and file visas for relatives on other passports.

What the Austrian foreign ministry says

The BMEIA travel information for the UAE carried the date when we read it on . The points that matter at the airport:

  • Entry: no visa for a stay of up to 90 days in six months (the page also mentions 180 days in the year).
  • Passport: valid for at least six months on entry.
  • Emergency passport: the cream-coloured "Notpass" is accepted for leaving and transit only.
  • Minors: a child travelling without both legal representatives, or with one, needs a written consent on top of their own passport.
  • ID Austria on a card is accepted only inside Austria, so bring the passport.

The same page gives security level 2 for the whole country and says a security risk exists nationwide because of the tense situation in the region. Military strikes and flight disruptions remain possible. It was "unchanged since" . It also recommends the free Austrian travel registration before you go.

Local law the ministry singles out

Austria's advice is blunt, and it is worth ten minutes before a first visit:

  • Drug offences carry multi-year sentences, and evidence of possession is punishable.
  • Zero alcohol tolerance when driving, and public drunkenness is prosecuted.
  • Insults and obscene gestures, including online, can lead to arrest.
  • Dress modestly in public, especially during Ramadan.
  • Public affection, and relationships outside marriage, can bring prison, fines or deportation.

Cost and stay

What Amount Where it comes from
Arrival on an Austrian passport (up to 90 days) Free MOFA exemption list
Extension, ICP application AED 100 ICP service page
Extension itself AED 500 ICP service page
Each day of overstay AED 50 ICP announcement
30-day single entry tourist visa for a relative AED 210 GDRFA service page

The amounts above come from MOFA, ICP and GDRFA, checked . The Emirates airline page gives the free stay as multiple entry, six months from issue, 90 days in total. No work is allowed on it.

Family and friends on other passports

Many Austrian households in the UAE are mixed. A partner from a visa-required country cannot use your free entry. Two routes exist: a Dubai tourism company files a GDRFA tourist visa, or a relative with UAE residence sponsors a visit visa through ICP at AED 100 application, AED 100 a month and AED 100 smart services. Parents are first-degree relatives for ICP, with a sponsor salary of AED 4,000 a month. Read the family visit visa guide before you choose.

If you want to stay past 90 days

A short extension is possible through ICP, and a tourist stay is capped at 120 days in total. Longer plans need a residence visa through an employer, a company or a family sponsor. Count your days from the first entry, and see the Dubai visa extension guide before the limit comes close.

Austrians living in the UAE

Residents mostly meet the Austrian embassy in Abu Dhabi, which lists passports, ID cards, civil status records, citizenship matters, protection and help abroad, and document authentication. We read no honorary consulate for Dubai on that page. Book in advance, and carry your Emirates ID with the passport.

Going the other way: Austria from Dubai

If you searched "Austria Schengen visa Dubai", you may be a UAE resident on another passport who wants to visit Austria. The Austrian embassy page names VFS Global in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for visa applications, and Dubai agencies publish about AED 325 to AED 499 (published prices of 3 Dubai agencies, checked ). Your UAE residence must stay valid for three months after the visa ends. Everything is on our Austria visa from Dubai page.

How it works with us

Message us on WhatsApp or use the form on this page. Give us the passport pages of everyone travelling and your dates. An adviser reads them against the Austrian and UAE rules and tells you what to fix before the flight: a Notpass, a missing consent letter, a passport with too little validity. When you need an extension or a visa for a relative, you see one total in writing first. After you agree, the team files the request and chases it. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, not an authority. The UAE immigration authorities make the decision.

A refusal does not bring the government fee back. Before you pay us, the adviser states in writing which part of our own charge, if any, is returned in that case.

Questions people ask

Do Austrians need a visa for Dubai?

No. The Austrian foreign ministry (BMEIA) gives 'Visumpflicht: nein' for stays of up to 90 days in six months. The UAE foreign ministry also lists Austria as visa free, with a free multiple entry visit visa on arrival valid six months.

How long must an Austrian passport be valid for the UAE?

At least six months on the day you enter, says the BMEIA travel page. The cream-coloured Austrian emergency passport is accepted only for leaving and transit, so do not use it to fly in.

Can an Austrian child travel to Dubai with one parent?

Yes, with paperwork. The BMEIA says a minor travelling without both legal representatives, or with only one, needs a written consent to travel on top of their own passport. Keep it with the passports, not in the checked bag.

What security level does Austria give the UAE?

On 24 October the BMEIA showed security level 2 for the whole country, unchanged since 4 September, citing the tense regional situation. Strikes and flight disruption remain possible. Read the live page before you book, because it can change.

Does Austria have an embassy or consulate in Dubai?

Austria has an embassy in Abu Dhabi only. Its page lists passports, ID cards, civil records, citizenship and help for lost passports or crimes, and names no honorary consulate in Dubai. Plan a trip to Abu Dhabi for in-person services.

Where is the Austria Schengen visa filed from Dubai?

That is for non-Austrian passports living in the UAE who want to visit Austria. The Austrian embassy page names VFS Global in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for visa applications. Our Austria visa page explains the steps and documents.

Can Austrians be arrested for social media posts in the UAE?

The BMEIA warns that insults and obscene gestures, also online, can lead to arrest. It adds that drug offences carry multi-year sentences and that public affection can lead to prison, fines or deportation. Keep posts and behaviour neutral.
