Belgians do not need a visa for the UAE. The foreign ministry lists Belgium as visa free, with a free multiple entry visit visa on arrival, valid six months, for up to 90 days in total. The bigger question is the Belgian travel advice. When we read it, it advised against non-essential travel to the UAE.

What the Belgian foreign office says

The FPS Foreign Affairs page for the UAE was last updated on . It says all non-essential travel to the UAE is currently advised against. It asks you to register through Travellers Online so the embassy can reach you in a crisis.

The page also gives two practical rules:

  • The passport must be valid for six months from the date you arrive.
  • There is zero tolerance on importing drugs, including cannabis-derived products. Some medicines are restricted too.

Read the current version before you buy a ticket. It can change quickly.

Cost and stay

Entry is free. To stay longer than the free days you need an ICP extension: AED 100 for the application and AED 500 for the extension, up to 120 days of tourist stay in total. Overstay is AED 50 for every day. Fees from the ICP service pages, checked .

Belgium's mission in the UAE

The Embassy of Belgium is in Abu Dhabi and covers the UAE. Its counter opens by appointment only, through the online system, on Monday and Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.
