Greece is on the UAE's visa free list, so a Greek passport gets in with a free visit visa at the airport, valid for 6 months and up to 90 days in total. Our part starts after the border: longer stays, relatives with other passports, and the paperwork for people settling in the Emirates.
Before you board
The UAE foreign ministry's exemption page shows Greece as Visa Free. The Emirates visa page lists it among the 90 day nationalities. That gives you four things to check at home:
- the passport has at least 6 months left;
- you will spend no more than 90 days in the UAE across the visa's 6 month life;
- a return or onward flight is easy to show;
- every companion's passport is checked on its own.
The visa on arrival guide walks through the airport counter. One note on sources: search results mention a UAE embassy in Athens page that describes the same 90 days for Greeks, but that page would not open for us, so the UAE foreign ministry list is our basis.

Greek diplomatic presence
Reports we found describe a Greek Embassy in Abu Dhabi with a consular office, open since 1989, and an economic and commercial office in Dubai. They also say there is no consulate in Dubai, so passport renewals and civil registry work go to Abu Dhabi. The Greek foreign ministry's site refused our requests, so we could not confirm this. Look at the embassy's own page before you travel for papers.
Settling in the UAE as a Greek citizen
Entry is easy, residence is a separate file with its own checks, medical test and Emirates ID. You switch from the free visit visa to a residence visa through a job, a company, an investment or a family sponsor. The routes are on the UAE residence visa page. If you are already a resident and want a non-Greek relative to join you, the Emirates sponsor list asks AED 4,000 a month for a spouse, child or parent and AED 5,500 for a sibling.
Papers to keep with you
- Greek passport with at least 6 months left
- Your entry permit or stamp, to prove the arrival date for an extension
- A photo on a white background if you file anything
- For a family visit, the host's Emirates ID and residence visa
A spouse or parent on a different passport
The free visa is a feature of the Greek passport. Your spouse, your mother or your child on another passport follows another rule. For some it means a tourist visa filed before the flight, for others a short visa tied to a foreign residence permit. Send us each passport page with the dates and we sort them one by one.
