Norwegians do not need a visa for Dubai. The UAE foreign ministry lists Norway as visa free, and the entry rule is a free multiple entry visit visa on arrival, valid for 6 months, for up to 90 days in total. We step in when the plan goes beyond that: an extension, a spouse on another passport, a move to the UAE, or a work permit.

What the entry rule gives you

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows the Kingdom of Norway as visa free. The rule published by the airlines is the same: a free multiple entry visit visa issued at the airport, valid for 6 months, with 90 days of stay in total. Nothing is filed in advance and nothing is paid at the desk.

Emirates adds that citizens of the listed European countries, Norway included, may also apply for a pre-arranged visit visa once the 90 days on arrival are fully used. Two points catch people out:

  • The 90 days are a limit on days spent in the UAE, not a clock that starts on the first entry and ends 90 days later.
  • Dubai is run by GDRFA. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates fall under ICP. The entry rule is the same, but an extension is filed with the authority for the emirate where you are staying.

Costs at a glance

Item Fee Notes
Visa on arrival, 90 days Free Norwegian passport
Extension (GDRFA) AED 600 plus 5% VAT Filed before the stay runs out
Extension (ICP) AED 100 application plus AED 500 Per extension, outside Dubai
Overstay fine AED 50 a day Counted from the day after the stay ends

Source: GDRFA and ICP service pages, checked . GDRFA lists tourist stays up to 120 days in total. ICP gives the same limit for tourist visits, so plan any extension inside that cap.

What we do for Norwegians

Most Norwegians never need us for the entry itself. We are useful in a few real cases:

  1. A family with mixed passports. A Norwegian with a partner from a visa required country needs a separate visa for that partner, filed before the flight. We check the rule for that passport and file the visa.
  2. A stay that will pass 90 days. We file the extension before the last day and tell you the fee up front.
  3. A move to the UAE. A visit visa cannot turn into work. We explain the route for an employee, an investor or a freelancer, and the paperwork for the family. See our guide to the UAE residence visa and work visa in Dubai.
  4. A visa for relatives in Norway. If your parents or friends travel on non-Norwegian passports, we prepare their tourist visa file.

Documents to carry

  • Norwegian passport valid for the whole stay
  • A return or onward ticket
  • A hotel booking or the address of your host
  • Health insurance that is valid in the UAE
  • For a child, the child's own passport and proof of the family link

Applying for an extension

  1. Count your days. Add up every day spent in the UAE since you landed.
  2. Send us the passport page and the entry stamp or e-record.
  3. We file with GDRFA or ICP, depending on the emirate.
  4. You get the new end date. Do not leave it to the last day.

Our Dubai visa extension guide covers the steps in more detail, and the overstay fine page explains the fine if a date is missed.

What the Norwegian government says

The Norwegian embassy in Abu Dhabi has a consulate in Dubai. Consular matters there are by appointment only. For urgent matters out of hours, the foreign ministry runs a 24 hour response centre.

The embassy's notices page, read on , lists a travel advice update from : the foreign ministry lifted its travel warnings for the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. The ministry changes its advice when the regional situation changes, so read the current page before you book. Norwegians are asked to register trips at reiseregistrering.no or in the Reiseklar app.

A note for people going the other way

Many Norwegians in the UAE also need a visa for their own family trips back to Europe. That runs through VFS Global and the embassy in Abu Dhabi. The embassy says its visa section does not take phone calls and sends all questions to VFS. Our page on the Norway visa from Dubai covers the fee and the timing.

How it works with us

Send us your passport page and the dates on WhatsApp or the form on this page. A visa adviser tells you whether your passport needs anything at all. If it does, you get one total price before you pay, and the team files it and keeps you informed until the permit is in your hands. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. GDRFA and ICP decide every application.

If a file is refused, the authorities keep their fees. Before you pay, the adviser tells you in writing which part of our price, if any, comes back in that case.

Questions people ask

Do Norwegians need a visa for Dubai?

No. The UAE foreign ministry lists Norway as visa free. You get a free multiple entry visit visa on arrival, valid 6 months, for up to 90 days in total. You still need a passport that is valid for your trip and a return ticket.

How long can a Norwegian stay in the UAE without a visa?

Up to 90 days in total on the visa on arrival, which is valid for 6 months from issue. The 90 days is the stay allowed, not the number of days between the first and last entry.

Can a Norwegian extend the stay in Dubai past 90 days?

An extension is possible before the stay runs out. GDRFA lists AED 600 plus 5% VAT for extensions of tourist and visa on arrival stays, and caps tourist stays at 120 days in total. Ask us before you rely on a specific end date.

Does my non-Norwegian wife or husband need a visa for the UAE?

It depends on that passport, not on yours. A Norwegian travelling with a spouse on another passport does not share the visa free entry. Send us the passport and we confirm the entry rule and file a visa if one is needed.

Does the Norwegian embassy in the UAE issue visas to Dubai?

No. A Norwegian embassy does not issue UAE visas. The Norwegian embassy in Abu Dhabi and the consulate in Dubai help Norwegian citizens, and their visa work is for people travelling to Norway.

Is it safe for Norwegians to travel to Dubai now?

The Norwegian embassy in the UAE lists a July notice saying the foreign ministry lifted its travel warnings for the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. Read the ministry's own travel page before you book, since advice can change.

What happens if a Norwegian overstays in the UAE?

The UAE fine for overstaying a visit is AED 50 for each day after the permitted stay ends. Leave or extend before the last day, since the fine counts from the day after.
