Golden visa for entrepreneurs

Founders get the 10-year golden visa through an SME with AED 1,000,000 a year in revenue, an exit worth AED 7,000,000, or an incubator approval. Dubai adds a nomination step.

The UAE golden visa for entrepreneurs is open to three kinds of founder: owners or partners of a UAE small or medium business with at least AED 1,000,000 in annual revenue, founders whose ventures were sold for AED 7,000,000 or more, and founders with an idea approved by an accredited incubator or authority. In Dubai, the Dubai Future Foundation nominates you, then GDRFA issues the permit in 5 days.

ICP and GDRFA now issue 10 years; older u.ae text still says 5 for some categories, entrepreneurs among them.

Three ways in as a founder

Your business earns AED 1,000,000 a year

ICP wants a UAE-registered SME in an approved field, owned by you or with you as a partner, and annual revenue of at least AED 1,000,000. The word is revenue, not profit. A trading company with thin margins can qualify where a consultancy with high margins and low turnover might not.

You built and sold a venture

If you founded ventures that were sold for a total of at least AED 7,000,000, you qualify on that record. ICP and GDRFA use the same figure. You will need sale documents that show the amounts.

An incubator or authority approved your idea

This is the route for founders who have not made money yet. ICP accepts approval of a venture idea from an accredited business incubator, the Ministry of Economy, ICP itself or a local authority. It asks for nothing more on the guide.

Where Dubai's GDRFA page differs from ICP

Route ICP guide GDRFA Dubai page
Running business SME revenue of AED 1,000,000 a year Registered pioneering project with annual income of AED 1 million
Incubator Approval of the idea is enough Approved project "with an income of AED 2 million"
Exit Ventures sold for AED 7,000,000 Project sold for at least AED 7 million
Who decides ICP Dubai Future Foundation nominates, GDRFA approves

The incubator line is the real gap. GDRFA writes that the incubator or Ministry approved project should have an income of AED 2 million. ICP does not mention any income for that route. We do not know which reading the Dubai Future Foundation applies to a pre-revenue startup, and no official page explains it. Ask them before you pay for the application.

GDRFA also states plainly that a nomination is not a final approval. GDRFA Dubai reviews the file after the nomination and makes the decision.

Startup investors are not entrepreneurs

There is no separate startup investor category on ICP, GDRFA or u.ae. If you put money into other people's companies, look at the public investment rules on the golden visa for investors page. The entrepreneur route is for founders.

Fees on the GDRFA route

Item GDRFA amount
Golden residence permit fee AED 1,100
Knowledge and Innovation Dirhams AED 10 each
Applicant already inside the UAE AED 500
Delivery of the permit AED 20

What Dubai agencies charge

Dubai Amer centres publish about AED 2,711.75 to AED 2,992.90 for the golden residence permit stage, government fees included, with medical and Emirates ID on top (price lists of 2 Dubai Amer centres, checked ). These are their prices, not ours, and they do not cover help with the nomination.

Documents checklist

GDRFA's own list for entrepreneurs is short: a passport copy and the nomination letter. The work is in getting the nomination, and the official pages do not publish its document list. Keep these ready to prove your route:

  • Passport copy and photo
  • Trade licence of the UAE company, showing you as owner or partner
  • Revenue proof for the last year, such as audited accounts or bank statements of the company
  • For the exit route: sale agreements and proof of the amounts received
  • For the incubator route: the approval letter from the incubator, the Ministry of Economy or the local authority
  • Health insurance for you and your family, valid at application
  • The nomination letter from the Dubai Future Foundation, once issued

Steps and processing time

  1. Decide which of the three routes fits your numbers.
  2. Apply to the Dubai Future Foundation for a nomination with your business evidence.
  3. With the nomination letter, file the golden residence on the GDRFA website or app with UAE Pass, or at Amer.
  4. Pay the GDRFA fee lines and complete the medical and Emirates ID biometrics.
  5. Add your family on your file.

GDRFA lists 5 days for the residence once the nomination is in hand. The official pages give no time for the nomination itself. Renewal for entrepreneurs is a separate GDRFA service with a 48-hour time.

Why founder applications fail

  • Revenue below AED 1,000,000, or shown as profit instead of turnover.
  • Business activity outside the approved fields.
  • Licence shows someone else as owner, with no partners appendix naming you.
  • Exit proof is a press article, not the sale documents.
  • Incubator approval from a body that is not accredited.
  • Nominated, but the GDRFA review finds a gap and refuses.

If the golden visa is out of reach

A business owner can hold residence through their own company on a partner visa. Self-employed investors and freelancers can also compare the green visa, which is 5 years. Neither route needs the Dubai Future Foundation.

How it works with us

Send your trade licence, passport copy and a short note on your revenue or exit on WhatsApp, or use the form on this page. A visa adviser tells you which founder route your numbers support, and whether the incubator gap is likely to affect you. You get one total price before paying, with the family members included if you want them. The team prepares the nomination file, follows it, then files the GDRFA residence, books the medical and biometrics and stays on it until the permit is out. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. The Dubai Future Foundation nominates and GDRFA decides.

If GDRFA refuses, its fees are not refunded. Before you pay, your adviser writes down what part of our total, if any, you get back after a refusal.

After approval

You keep the visa without a sponsor and can stay abroad longer than 180 days. Spouse, children of any age and parents can join you, see golden visa for family. Plan the renewal around your revenue, because GDRFA renews on the same terms as the first issue. For other categories, start at the UAE golden visa hub.

Questions people ask

Who nominates entrepreneurs for the golden visa in Dubai?

The Dubai Future Foundation. The GDRFA entrepreneurs page asks for a nomination letter, and it calls the body both the Dubai Future Foundation and the Dubai Future Authority. GDRFA still reviews the file and gives the final approval after the nomination.

Does my company need AED 1,000,000 in profit or in revenue?

Revenue. ICP asks for a UAE-registered small or medium business in an approved field with annual revenue of at least AED 1,000,000. GDRFA calls it annual income. Neither page asks for profit.

Can I get the entrepreneur golden visa with only a business idea?

ICP says yes if an accredited business incubator, the Ministry of Economy, ICP or a local authority approves the idea. The GDRFA Dubai page adds a line about an income of AED 2 million for this route, which ICP does not mention. Ask the nominating body which rule it applies.

I sold my startup. Does that count?

It can. ICP and GDRFA both accept founders of ventures previously sold for a total of at least AED 7,000,000. Keep the sale agreements and proof of the amounts received.

Is the entrepreneur golden visa 5 or 10 years?

ICP and GDRFA now list 10 years for entrepreneurs. The u.ae page still shows 5 years for this category, so if you see both figures, rely on the ICP and GDRFA pages.

How do I renew an entrepreneur golden visa in Dubai?

GDRFA has a separate renewal service for entrepreneurs. It renews on the same terms as the first issue, with the same fee lines, and lists 48 hours.
