Golden visa for teachers

Teachers have three doors: KHDA's selection rounds for private sector educators in Dubai, a nomination from the Ministry of Education or a local authority, or the skilled salary route.

Teachers can get a UAE golden visa through three routes. In Dubai, KHDA selects outstanding educators in private schools, nurseries and international universities in set rounds. Anywhere in the UAE, the Ministry of Education or a local authority can nominate education specialists. Or you qualify on salary: AED 30,000 a month at MOHRE level 1 or 2, a degree and a teaching licence.

Most classroom teachers in Dubai will look at the first route. School leaders on high salaries often fit the third.

The KHDA scheme for Dubai educators

KHDA, Dubai's private education regulator, runs a golden visa scheme for educators working in private early childhood centres, schools and international higher education institutions in Dubai. Selection, not a fixed formula, decides it. Media reports on the rounds describe an evaluation of qualifications, achievements, contribution to education and feedback from students and parents.

It runs in rounds. The second round took applications from to , as the Dubai Media Office announced on . That round is closed.

What about now? Press coverage on , World Teachers' Day, says the scheme continues. When we checked later that month we found no new application window on an official page. Treat any dates you hear second hand with care, and check the KHDA website directly.

Two things the scheme is not. It is not open to public school teachers. And it is not a route for teachers in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi or the northern emirates.

The education specialist nomination

ICP lists education specialists recommended by the Ministry of Education or the local authority. GDRFA's specialised scientists page lists the same path in Dubai: a nomination letter from the Ministry of Education or the local authority, plus ICP approval.

Neither page publishes criteria for who gets nominated. That is decided by the nominating body. If you are not sure who your local authority is, your school's HR team usually knows which body licenses it.

In Abu Dhabi, ADRO says educator nominations are not available on its site. You apply through TAMM, where educators sit as a named category. The Abu Dhabi golden visa page has more on ADRO and TAMM.

The salary route for teachers and school leaders

Condition What it means for a teacher
MOHRE level 1 or 2 Level 2 covers specialists; ADRO lists education among them
Monthly salary At least AED 30,000 under a valid UAE contract
Degree Bachelor's or higher, foreign degrees with a Ministry of Education equivalency report
Licence GDRFA names teaching as a profession that needs a valid licence
Bank proof Salary transfers for the last 6 months
Health insurance For you and your family, for the life of the permit

The salary line is the hard part for most classroom teachers, and we will not guess what any school pays. Principals, heads of department at large groups and university faculty are the ones who most often meet it. Our skilled professionals golden visa page covers this route in full.

Keep the cancellation rule in mind. GDRFA says the permit is cancelled if the salary falls below AED 30,000 or the contract is cancelled. A teacher changing schools mid-year should line up the new contract first.

Papers to gather

  • Passport copy and a photo
  • Teaching licence, valid
  • Degree certificate with equivalency report or attestation
  • Employment contract or salary certificate from the school
  • 6 months of bank statements showing salary
  • KHDA selection or nomination letter, if you are on those routes
  • Health insurance

Fees

On every GDRFA golden page the fee lines are the same: AED 1,100 for the permit, AED 10 Knowledge Dirham, AED 10 Innovation Dirham, AED 20 delivery and AED 500 if you apply from inside the UAE. The page adds that the issuance fee goes up by AED 100 a year once the residency runs past two years, without giving a total. Source: GDRFA golden residence pages, checked .

Teachers living outside Dubai file through ICP, which lists AED 100 for the application, AED 100 for each year of residence and AED 100 smart services. Medical and Emirates ID are separate. The golden visa cost page lists them.

Market prices

Two Dubai Amer centres publish all-in prices of AED 2,711.75 to AED 2,992.90 for the GDRFA residence permit stage (published prices of 2 centres, checked ), with medical and Emirates ID on top.

How long it takes

For the salary route, GDRFA states 48 hours after the file is complete, and ICP states 2 days. For the KHDA scheme, the round itself sets the pace: you apply in the window and wait for the selection, then file the residence. No official page gives the selection time.

Where teachers' files fail

  • Expired or missing licence. On the salary route this alone stops the file.
  • Applying to KHDA outside a round. Outside an open window there is nothing to apply to.
  • A school outside the scheme. A public school or a school in another emirate is not covered by KHDA.
  • Salary below the line. Allowances may not be counted the way you expect.
  • Degree without equivalency. Foreign teaching degrees need the Ministry of Education report.

How it works with us for teachers

Message us on WhatsApp or use the form here with your passport, school, role, licence and salary details. A visa adviser tells you which route is open to you today: a KHDA round, a nomination, or the salary route. If none fits yet, you hear that straight away. Where a route fits, you get one total price before you pay, and the team prepares and files the residence and follows up through medical and Emirates ID. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. KHDA and the nominating bodies select, and GDRFA or ICP decides the permit.

Government fees are not refunded by the authorities after a refusal. Before you pay, the adviser confirms in writing which part of our total, if any, would come back.

Official sources

Checked . ICP and GDRFA now issue 10 years; older u.ae text still says 5 for some categories. For sponsoring a spouse and children, see golden visa for family, and for every category at a glance see the UAE golden visa guide.

  3. Collect the licence and degree

A valid teaching licence, plus a degree with an equivalency report or attestation.

  4. Get the nomination or approval

KHDA selection, a Ministry of Education or local authority nomination, or no nomination on the salary route.

  5. File the residence

Apply on GDRFA or ICP channels, then complete the medical and Emirates ID.
