The UAE golden visa for skilled professionals is for employees with a valid UAE work permit, a job at MOHRE occupational level 1 or 2, at least a bachelor's degree and a monthly salary of AED 30,000. In Dubai, GDRFA also wants 6 months of salary transfers in your bank statement and lists 48 hours to issue the 10-year permit. You need no nomination.

That makes it the most direct golden route for salaried people. It also carries a condition the others do not: the visa stays tied to your pay.

The five conditions, one by one

  1. A valid UAE work permit under an approved contract. GDRFA accepts contracts and salary certificates from government, semi-government and free zone employers.
  2. MOHRE level 1 or 2. ICP puts chairpersons and chief executives at level 1 and specialists at level 2.
  3. A bachelor's degree or higher. Foreign degrees need a Ministry of Education recognition report. UAE degrees need attestation.
  4. AED 30,000 a month, or the same in a foreign currency on the ICP wording.
  5. A licence to practise where the profession needs one. GDRFA's examples are physicians, pharmacists and teachers.

ICP adds health insurance for you and your family throughout the life of the permit.

The salary wording

ICP says "at least AED 30,000". GDRFA's terms say "approximately AED 30,000", and its document list says "no less than AED 30,000". No official page says whether that means basic or total salary. One Dubai Amer centre's form asks for basic salary of AED 30,000. If your basic is lower and allowances lift you over the line, get an answer before you file.

Which jobs sit at level 2

ADRO in Abu Dhabi spells out level 2: professionals in sciences, engineering, health, education, business and management, IT, law, sociology and culture. So engineers, IT specialists and lawyers can fit, if the other conditions are met. Ask HR how MOHRE classifies your role. Sector pages: engineers, teachers and doctors.

GDRFA says the issuance fee goes up by AED 100 a year for residency over two years and gives no 10-year total. The Dubai medical test starts at AED 270 for the normal service, and the Emirates ID is AED 100 per year plus a AED 100 smart service fee.

What Dubai agencies charge

Amer centres in Dubai publish about AED 2,711.75 to AED 2,992.90 for the golden residence permit stage on the salary route, with government fees inside and the medical and Emirates ID extra (price lists of 2 Dubai Amer centres, checked ). These are their prices, not ours.

Documents checklist

  • Passport
  • Employment contract or salary certificate from your employer
  • Bank statement with salary transfers for the last 6 months
  • Bachelor's degree, with the Ministry of Education recognition report if foreign, or attested if from the UAE
  • Licence to practise, if your profession needs one
  • Health insurance for you and your family

ADRO in Abu Dhabi asks for the same 6-month statement from an approved UAE bank and a salary certificate not older than one month. Its own steps are on the Abu Dhabi golden visa page.

Processing time

GDRFA lists 48 hours for this category. ICP lists 2 days for golden residence issuance. If you do not have the degree recognition report yet, start with it, because the file cannot go in without it. ICP's six-month multiple-entry visa exists for eligible people outside the UAE, but this route needs a UAE work permit, so you will usually be here already.

Common refusal reasons

  • Salary transfers in the statement show less than AED 30,000 in some months.
  • The job is classified at level 3 or below on the work permit.
  • Foreign degree without a Ministry of Education recognition report.
  • Diploma or certificate instead of a bachelor's degree.
  • Licensed profession with an expired licence.
  • Salary certificate and contract show different figures.

GDRFA is direct about it: if the salary falls below AED 30,000 or the contract is cancelled, the golden residence permit is cancelled. A pay cut, a move to a lower role or a resignation can all trigger it. Before you change jobs in the UAE, work out the timing with your new employer.

If the permit is cancelled, ICP gives golden holders and their families 180 days of grace. The GDRFA general cancellation page says 60 days, so check which period GDRFA applies to you. The grace period after cancellation guide covers both.

Earning less than AED 30,000?

The green visa asks for AED 15,000 a month, a bachelor's degree and a job at MOHRE level 1, 2 or 3. It runs for 5 years and needs no employer sponsor either.

How it works with us

Share your passport copy, contract or salary certificate and degree on WhatsApp, or through the form on this page. A visa adviser checks the job level on your work permit, reads the salary wording against the GDRFA rule and tells you if the degree needs a recognition report first. You get one total price, family included if you want it, before you pay. The team files with GDRFA or ICP, books the medical and Emirates ID biometrics and follows the application until the permit is issued. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. GDRFA or ICP makes the decision.

After a refusal, the government fees stay with the authorities. Your adviser tells you in writing before payment what part of our total, if any, is returned.

After approval

You can sponsor your spouse and children, plus parents, on the golden visa family route, and stay outside the UAE beyond 180 days. For the other categories, see the UAE golden visa hub.

Questions people ask

Is the AED 30,000 golden visa salary basic or total?

No official page defines it. ICP says at least AED 30,000 a month, GDRFA's terms say approximately AED 30,000 and its document list says no less than AED 30,000. One Dubai Amer centre's form asks for basic salary. Ask before you apply if your basic is below the figure and your allowances take you over it.

Which jobs are MOHRE skill level 1 and level 2?

ICP describes level 1 as chairpersons and chief executives and level 2 as specialists. ADRO in Abu Dhabi lists level 2 professionals in sciences, engineering, health, education, business and management, IT, law, sociology and culture.

Do IT professionals qualify for the golden visa?

IT is named in ADRO's list of level 2 professions, so an IT specialist can use this route if the job is classified at level 1 or 2 and the salary, degree and work permit conditions are met. There is no separate IT category.

What happens to my golden visa if I change jobs?

GDRFA says the permit is cancelled if the salary falls below AED 30,000 or the contract is cancelled. The page does not say what happens if you move straight to a new job on the same salary, so check with GDRFA before you resign.

Does a foreign degree need an equivalency for the golden visa?

Yes. GDRFA asks for a recognition report from the Ministry of Education for degrees earned abroad. A degree from a UAE university needs to be attested instead.

Can a free zone employee apply on the salary route?

Yes. GDRFA accepts an employment contract or salary certificate from government, semi-government and free zone employers, not only mainland companies.
