Montenegro visa for UAE residents

We check your passport and any Schengen, UK or US visa against Montenegro's rules, and prepare your visa file and VFS slot if you need one. A UAE residence permit alone is not on the visa-free list.

We check your papers, then book VFS if needed

Many UAE residents assume their residence permit is a free pass into Montenegro. It is not on the list. The Montenegrin government gives 30 days of visa-free stay to holders of valid Schengen, UK, US and a few other visas or residence permits, and 90 days to UAE citizens. We check your passport and papers, and prepare the visa file and VFS slot if you need one.

What the government page says

We read the Montenegro government visa page on . Holders of a valid Schengen, Australian, Bulgarian, Canadian, Irish, Japanese, New Zealand, Romanian, UK or US visa may enter, transit through and stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days. If the visa has less than 30 days left, you may stay only until it expires. Holders of residence permits from the same places, and APEC business travel cards, get the same 30 days.

The page does not name UAE residence permits in that list. If you hold a passport that is visa-free on its own, you do not need any of this. If you hold a passport that needs a visa, such as an Indian one, it means a Schengen, UK or US visa in your passport is the cheapest way in.

For UAE citizens, the government page for the UAE says they "may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa." That is for Emiratis, not for expats.

Visa types

A short-stay visa (C) is for transit or stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period. It can be issued for one entry or several, and for frequent travellers its validity runs from 6 months to 5 years. A long-stay visa (D) is for stays over 90 days, for business, diplomatic service or digital nomad purposes. A holiday on the Adriatic coast needs a C visa at most.

Where to apply from the UAE

Montenegro has an embassy in Abu Dhabi. The government page on the UAE adds that people who need a visa can apply through VFS Global centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. We prepare your file, check each document, book your VFS slot and send you with a list of what to bring. You only attend the centre for biometrics.

Indian passport holders applying from the UAE: Montenegro's page for India says citizens of India must hold a visa, with applications at VFS centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Kochi. As you live in the UAE, you file in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, so check with us that the UAE centre takes your case before you pay anything.

Documents

The government pages do not list the visa documents for UAE applicants, so we do not give you a list that we cannot source. As a rule, a visa file for a short Adriatic trip covers passport, photo, UAE residence proof, hotel booking, return ticket, bank statements and travel insurance. Your adviser gets the exact list from VFS for your passport and sends it to you with the appointment.

UK passport holders in the UAE

The UK FCDO says British citizens can visit Montenegro without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The passport must have been issued less than 10 years before entry and be valid for 3 months after you leave. You must register with the local tourism office or police within 24 hours, which hotels usually do, and visits do not count toward the Schengen 90 days. Cash of EUR 10,000 or more must be declared.

Reasons trips fall through

  • Counting UAE residence as a visa-free document.
  • A Schengen visa that expires within the 30 days planned.
  • Reading a Schengen rule as covering a long stay. The Montenegrin rule is 30 days.
  • A visa application filed late with no slot left before flying.
  • Passports issued more than 10 years ago.

How it works with us

Send your passport copy and any Schengen, UK or US visa on WhatsApp or through the form on this page. An adviser tells you whether you can travel visa-free. If you need a visa, you get one total price before paying. The team prepares the file, books the VFS slot in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and tracks the application. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. Montenegro's authorities decide every visa and every entry.

Consular fees are not returned after a refusal. Before you pay, your adviser tells you in writing which part of our total, if any, comes back if the visa is refused.

  1. Check the passport

Some passports need no visa. Others, such as India, need one.

  2. Look at your other visas

A valid Schengen, UK, US, Irish, Canadian, Australian, Japanese, New Zealand, Bulgarian or Romanian visa gives 30 days.

  3. Apply if you have neither

File a short-stay visa through VFS in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

  4. Keep dates in line

A visa-holder rule runs up to 30 days or the visa end date, whichever is first.

Questions people ask

Can UAE residents enter Montenegro without a visa?

Not on the strength of UAE residence. The Montenegro government page lists valid Schengen, UK, US and a few other visas or residence permits for 30 days of visa-free stay, and does not name UAE residence permits. Your passport decides, or one of those visas.

Is there a Montenegro visa on arrival for UAE residents?

The government visa pages we read describe visa-free entry for some passports and for holders of listed visas, and a short-stay visa applied for in advance. We found no visa sold at the border, so plan on one of the first two routes.

Can Indians living in the UAE visit Montenegro?

Yes, with the right document. The government page for India says citizens of India must hold a visa. An Indian passport holder with a valid Schengen, UK, US, Irish, Canadian, Australian, Japanese or New Zealand visa can enter for up to 30 days.

How many days can I stay in Montenegro on a Schengen visa?

Up to 30 days, and no longer than the visa validity if that is shorter. The same 30 days applies to holders of residence permits of the listed countries. The rule covers entering, transiting and staying.

Where do I apply for a Montenegro visa from Dubai?

Montenegro has an embassy in Abu Dhabi. Its government page says people who need a visa can apply through VFS Global centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. We prepare the file and book your slot, so you only attend for biometrics.

How long can Emiratis stay in Montenegro?

Nationals of the United Arab Emirates may enter and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days without a visa with a valid travel document, according to the Montenegro government page on the UAE. That rule is for citizens, not residents.
