Mozambique runs its entry rules through one online portal, evisa.gov.mz. It offers a tourist visa for up to 90 days, an eTA for 30 days of tourism or business for listed countries, and visa-free entry for neighbours such as Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. The rule follows your passport, not your UAE residence.
Three lists on the portal
- Visa-exempt: includes Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, with stay limits that differ by passport type.
- eTA eligible: Canada, USA, UK, France, Germany, Japan, China and more than 30 others, each for 30 days of tourism or business.
- Restricted: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Somalia. These applicants go through an embassy.
What it costs
The UK foreign office says the ETA costs about USD 47, made of a USD 37 visa fee and a 650 metical processing charge. You pay online as you apply. Nothing is collected at the border. The portal page we read showed no fee amounts, so for other visa types ask us for the current figure.
Time and papers
Apply at least 5 working days ahead, says the UK foreign office. Canada's travel site says 48 hours. Papers: a passport valid for 6 months after arrival with 2 blank pages, a return or onward ticket (not needed by land), proof of accommodation, and a printed copy of the approved ETA with the payment confirmation. Children under 18 need an unabridged birth certificate that names both parents. A yellow fever certificate is needed if you arrive from a transmission-risk country.
Rules at the border
Declare cash of 10,000 meticais or more, or USD 5,000 or more. Canada advises a high degree of caution because of crime, demonstrations, kidnappings and terrorism. Tourists can get one 30-day extension, with a total visa-free stay of 90 days a year.
