The Dubai student visa requirements on the GDRFA page are short: a photo, a passport copy, an approved medical exam if you are 18 or over, the Emirates ID application receipt and health insurance. The institution must be licensed and approved by the Ministry of Education or the emirate's education authority. A parent sponsor adds a study certificate and their own residence papers. GDRFA lists 48 hours once all of it is filed.

What follows is the checklist for each sponsor and the order that avoids paying twice.

Checklist: the university is your sponsor

GDRFA treats the institution as host and guarantor. It files, and you supply:

  • Recent colour photo on a white background
  • Passport copy, with enough validity for the year ahead
  • Approved medical fitness result (18 and over)
  • Emirates ID application receipt
  • Health insurance policy
  • Your admission or enrolment letter (the university keeps this on its side)

Checklist: a parent is your sponsor

The parent files on the family route. u.ae asks for a certificate from the university or institute that shows how long the studies last. The parent also needs the usual family papers:

  • Parent's valid residence and Emirates ID
  • Salary certificate and employment contract: AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation
  • Tenancy contract or title deed for the home
  • Student's passport, valid 6 months or more, and a photo
  • Attested birth certificate
  • Study duration certificate from the institution
  • Health insurance and, at 18 and over, the medical result

Age decides whether this route is open. Sons can stay on a parent up to 25, and past 25 with proof of study at a higher education institute. Daughters can stay until they marry. The wider family rules are on family visa requirements.

Order of steps

  1. Admission first. No institution, no visa. Check it is licensed before paying fees.
  2. Insurance next. GDRFA lists it as a document, so the residence cannot be filed without it. See health insurance for a residence visa.
  3. Entry or status change. Outside the UAE, you come in on the entry arranged by your sponsor. Already here on a visit visa? You pay the inside-the-country fee instead of leaving. Our page on changing visa status in the UAE explains this step.
  4. Medical test if you are 18 or older. Details on the medical test for a residence visa.
  5. Emirates ID biometrics. The receipt is one of the GDRFA documents.
  6. Residence issued on your passport file.

Dubai universities publish their own all-in visa packages: AED 5,555.22 to AED 10,074.10 for a new visa and AED 1,670 to AED 4,570.22 for a yearly renewal (2 universities each, checked ). We found no Dubai agency publishing a student visa price. These are university prices, not ours.

Processing time

GDRFA: 48 hours from a complete file. The parts before that take longer. Expect a few days for insurance and the medical, plus the Emirates ID appointment. Universities set their own deadlines, often well before term starts, so start as soon as you hold the offer.

Why student files get stuck

  • Insurance missing or bought for the wrong dates.
  • A photo that fails the white background rule.
  • The medical done under an old passport number.
  • The Emirates ID receipt not attached.
  • A parent-sponsored son over 25 with no study proof.
  • The institution not on the licensed list, so it cannot act as host.

Renewing each year

Dubai universities renew student visas every year. GDRFA renews on the same terms and fees, so you show the same papers again: new photo, passport, medical if 18 or over, insurance and continued enrolment. Students who graduate with top grades should check the golden visa for students.

How it works with us

Send the student's passport, the offer letter and the sponsor's residence on WhatsApp, or use the form on this page. A visa adviser checks the papers against the GDRFA list and the family route, and tells you which ones are missing or will be rejected. You then get one total price, before you pay anything. The team books the medical and biometrics, files the residence, and follows it until it is issued. If the university is the sponsor, we tell you plainly when it is better to let the university file. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service. GDRFA or ICP decides.

If a student visa is refused, the authorities keep their fees. Before payment, your adviser puts in writing what part of our total, if any, would be returned.

Questions people ask

What are the UAE student visa requirements?

For a university-hosted student, GDRFA lists a photo, a passport copy, an approved medical exam, the Emirates ID application receipt and health insurance. The institution must be licensed and approved by the Ministry of Education or the emirate's education authority.

How much is a Dubai student visa?

The GDRFA residence lines are AED 200 plus AED 10, AED 10 and AED 20 delivery, with AED 500 more if you are already inside the UAE. Dubai universities publish full packages of AED 5,555.22 to AED 10,074.10 for a new visa.

Do students under 18 need a medical test?

No. The medical fitness test is for residence applicants aged 18 and over. A 17-year-old first-year student skips it and takes it at the first renewal after turning 18.

What does a parent need to sponsor a university student?

Their own valid UAE residence, the family route papers such as the salary certificate and housing contract, and a certificate from the university or institute showing how long the studies last.

How long does the Dubai student visa process take?

GDRFA lists 48 hours for the residence once everything is filed. In practice the wait is longer because the medical, Emirates ID biometrics, insurance and the university's own checks come first.

Do I need to attest my school certificates for a UAE student visa?

The GDRFA student permit page does not list attested certificates among the visa documents. Universities often ask for attested or equivalency papers for admission, which is a separate process. Ask your admissions office.
