Golden visa for students

School leavers need 95% in Grade 12. UAE graduates need a GPA of 3.5 or 3.8 by university class, and top 100 graduates abroad need 3.5, within 2 years.

The UAE golden visa for students goes to top school leavers and recent graduates. You need 95% or more in Grade 12, or a GPA of at least 3.5 at a class A UAE university or 3.8 at a class B one, or a bachelor's GPA of 3.5 from a world top 100 university, within 2 years of graduating. In Dubai the residence file must be issued by Dubai, and GDRFA states 5 days.

There are three tracks. Each has its own test and its own catch.

Track 1: school leavers

  • Grade 12 from a government school, or a private school licensed by the Ministry of Education or the local education authority
  • 95% or more, or the equivalent in your curriculum
  • Certificate attested by the Ministry of Education

The equivalent matters for British, American, IB and Indian curricula, where results are not printed as one percentage. The Ministry's equivalency decides how your grades convert, so get it before you count on qualifying.

The family catch. GDRFA says high-achieving high school students may sponsor their parents only, excluding siblings. A school leaver cannot bring a younger brother or sister on their own permit. The golden visa for parents page covers sponsoring a mother or father.

In Abu Dhabi, graduates of private schools do not start the process themselves: ADEK nominates students each academic year on set criteria, and they receive an invitation.

Track 2: UAE university graduates

University class Minimum GPA (out of 4.0)
Class A 3.5
Class B 3.8

The class is set by the Ministry of Education's classification of licensed universities. A 3.6 graduate passes at a class A university and fails at a class B one. The degree can be a bachelor's, master's or PhD, from a Ministry-licensed university, and you must have graduated no more than 2 years ago. It must be attested.

Track 3: graduates of universities abroad

  • A university in the world top 100 of the ranking recognised by the Ministry of Education
  • A bachelor's GPA of at least 3.5
  • Graduated no more than 2 years ago
  • Degree attested

People often search for a "golden visa university list". No fixed list is printed on the ICP or GDRFA pages. The test is the top 100 position in the ranking the Ministry recognises, so check where your university stood in that ranking before you apply.

Documents for a Dubai application

  • Passport copy and photo
  • Grade 12 certificate showing the result, or the degree and transcript with the GPA
  • Ministry of Education attestation or equivalency
  • Dubai residence permit copy, where you hold one
  • ICP approval
  • Health insurance

The Dubai file rule

GDRFA's students page says approval "is conditional upon a residency file issued solely by the Emirate of Dubai", and ICP approval comes first. If your family's residence was issued in Sharjah or Abu Dhabi, the Dubai route does not apply as it stands. Ask ICP where to file.

Fees

GDRFA fee item Amount
Residence permit AED 1,100
Knowledge Dirham AED 10
Innovation Dirham AED 10
Applying inside the UAE AED 500
Delivery AED 20

Source: GDRFA top students and graduates page, checked . The page adds that the issuance fee goes up by AED 100 a year whenever the residency is over two years, and gives no total. ICP's own scale outside Dubai is AED 100 application, AED 100 per year and AED 100 smart services.

Then the extras. Dubai's medical test costs AED 270 for the standard service, AED 700 for VIP or Smart Salem and AED 1,020 for VIP in 2 hours. A student under 18 skips it. The Emirates ID is AED 100 per year of residence plus a AED 100 smart service fee from ICP.

Two Dubai Amer centres publish all-in prices of AED 2,711.75 to AED 2,992.90 for the residence permit stage, with outstanding high school and university graduates named on one list (published prices of 2 centres, checked ). Medical and Emirates ID are extra. Full breakdown on the golden visa cost page.

Processing time

GDRFA's students page states 5 days for the first permit once ICP approval is in. Attestation of a foreign degree is usually the slowest part, and that runs before you can file.

Validity and renewal: two conflicts

ICP and GDRFA now issue 10 years; older u.ae text still says 5 for some categories, including high school achievers.

Renewal is less clear. GDRFA's issuance page says student golden permits "are not renewed after their expiration". Yet GDRFA also runs a renewal service for top students and graduates, at 48 hours, and ICP says golden residence renews automatically. Our reading: do not count on renewing on student grounds. Plan your next route, such as a job on the skilled route, before expiry. The golden visa renewal page tracks this.

Why student applications fail

  • Graduated more than 2 years ago. The window is strict.
  • University in class B with a 3.5 to 3.7 GPA. Below the class B line.
  • No attestation or equivalency. The certificate cannot be checked without it.
  • Residence file outside Dubai. The Dubai route needs a Dubai file.
  • Expecting to sponsor siblings. Parents only on the school track.

If the grades fall short, a student visa in Dubai or the family's own sponsorship is still open.

How it works with us for students

A parent or the student sends the certificate, transcript and passport on WhatsApp or through the form on this page. A visa adviser checks the grade against the right track, the university's class or ranking, the 2-year window and which emirate holds the residence file, and says plainly if something is missing. You get one total price before paying. The team then files with GDRFA after ICP approval, books the medical if the student is 18 or over and the Emirates ID, and follows up. Parents can be added in the same request. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, and ICP and GDRFA decide.

If the permit is refused, the government fees are not refunded by the authorities. Before you pay, the adviser states in writing which part of our total, if any, would be returned.

Is the student golden visa for 5 or 10 years?

ICP and GDRFA now list 10 years for students. Older text on u.ae still says 5 years for high school achievers. Check the term on your application before you pay.
