In Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates, ICP lists an overstay fine of AED 50 for each day you stay after your visa ends or is cancelled. You check and pay it on the ICP Smart Services website with UAE Pass. After paying, you must fix your status or leave the country. Dubai files use GDRFA instead.

Who sets the fine here

Dubai is GDRFA. Everything else, including Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, is ICP. This page covers the ICP side. The UAE overstay fine page has the full rules by visa type, so we keep this one to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates.

One conflict you should know about. The Abu Dhabi Regulatory Office visa page says an overstay fine on a visit visa is AED 100 per day. The ICP service pages for visit visas, residence permits and the fine payment service all say AED 50 per day. We use the ICP figure because ICP is the office that takes the payment. Check the total shown on the ICP service before you pay.

A quick calculation

Fine = days after the permitted stay or grace period x AED 50. A visitor who stays 12 days past the end of the visa owes 12 x AED 50, plus the AED 100 service fee when paying. Residence holders count from the day after the grace period ends, not from the expiry date.

Grace periods for residence permits

ICP lists these grace periods after a residence permit expires or is cancelled:

  • 180 days for Golden, Green and Blue residence holders, and some family categories.
  • 90 days for skilled workers levels 1 to 3 and property owners.
  • 60 days for permits issued with a guarantor or host.
  • 30 days for all other categories.

The Abu Dhabi Regulatory Office page also gives visit visa holders a 10 day period to get an extension. If you pass it, fines accrue.

Check the fine

  1. Open the ICP Smart Services website or app and sign in with UAE Pass.
  2. Open the violation fine payment service. It retrieves your file data.
  3. Review the data. Fix it if a name or passport number is wrong.
  4. Pay online, 24/7.

The Dubai GDRFA fines inquiry works by file number, Emirates ID or passport number, but it is for Dubai files only. A Sharjah or Abu Dhabi visa will not appear there.

Can a fine be reduced?

We read the ICP and Abu Dhabi Regulatory Office service pages and found no reduction or waiver scheme. The daily rate is fixed by the authority. We do not promise any reduction and we do not change the amount. What actually lowers your bill is acting early: extend before the visa ends, fix your status, or leave. The Abu Dhabi visa extension page shows the fees.

Leaving the UAE with a fine

After paying, ICP says you must adjust your status or leave. If you are leaving, ICP issues a departure permit to violators once the fines are paid. It costs AED 200 plus AED 100 smart services. You need your passport, a photo and a ticket leaving within 7 days. You must leave within 7 days of the permit, or cancel it and apply again.

Where to go in person

ICP lists customer happiness centres in Abu Dhabi (Al Mushrif on Shakhbut Bin Sultan Street, Khalifa City A, Mussafah, Al Ain and others) and in Sharjah (the main centre on Airport Street, Bridge No. 6, Al Rahmaniya, plus Khor Fakkan, Al Dhaid and Al Ghubaiba). The page gives no opening hours, so check before you travel.

How it works with us

Send your passport copy and visa details on WhatsApp or through the form on this page. A visa adviser works out the fine, checks which authority holds your file and tells you whether you should extend, change status or leave. You get one total price before you pay. Our team handles the online steps with you and follows the permit through. We are a private visa service, not ICP, and the authority decides every request.

The fine itself goes to the authority and is not refundable. Before you pay us, your adviser tells you in writing what part of our fee, if any, comes back if the request is refused.

Questions people ask

How much is the overstay fine in Abu Dhabi?

ICP lists AED 50 for each day of stay after a visa or residence permit ends or is cancelled. A page from the Abu Dhabi Regulatory Office says AED 100 a day for a visit visa overstay. The two pages disagree, so check your total on the ICP service before you pay.

How do I check an overstay fine in Sharjah?

Sharjah files are ICP files. Log in to the ICP Smart Services website with UAE Pass and open the violation fine payment service, which retrieves your data. The Dubai GDRFA fines inquiry is for Dubai files only, so it will not help for a Sharjah visa.

Can an overstay fine in Sharjah be reduced?

We found no official ICP page that offers a reduction or waiver, and we do not promise one. Agents who advertise a reduction cannot change the daily rate. What you can do is stop the days adding up by fixing your status or leaving quickly.

How do I pay a Sharjah visit visa overstay fine?

Use ICP Smart Services with UAE Pass, open the violation fine payment service, review the retrieved data and pay online. ICP lists the fine at AED 50 per day plus a smart services fee of AED 100. Afterwards you must fix your status or leave the UAE.

Do I get a grace period before the Abu Dhabi overstay fine starts?

It depends on the permit. For residence permits ICP lists 30, 60, 90 or 180 days after expiry or cancellation depending on the category, and the fine starts after that. For a visit visa the Abu Dhabi Regulatory Office page mentions a 10 day grace period for an extension.

Can I leave Abu Dhabi if I owe an overstay fine?

Yes, but you pay the fines first. ICP issues a departure permit to violators after the fines are paid, for AED 200 plus AED 100 smart services. It needs a ticket departing within 7 days, and the permit must be used within 7 days.

Should I pay my Abu Dhabi overstay fine before going to the airport?

Yes. ICP says the fine must be paid and then the status adjusted or the person must leave. Pay online first and, if you are leaving, request the departure permit, so you do not arrive at the airport with an open file.
