Syria requires a visa, and official advice is against going. The UK foreign office advises against all travel to Syria, and the UAE foreign ministry warns Emiratis against going at present. We can check what your passport needs. A visa is not something we can promise, and we do not recommend the trip.
Official advice
- UK foreign office, page updated : advises against all travel to Syria because of unpredictable security conditions and the threat of terrorist attacks. The UK offers no consular support inside Syria, and travel insurance may not pay out if you go against the advice.
- UAE foreign ministry, page last modified : warns UAE nationals against traveling to the Syrian Arab Republic at present.
Entry rules
| Topic | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Visa | Needed; the page names the e-visa site evisa.sy |
| Waiting time | Typically 5 to 7 days |
| Passport life | At least 3 months beyond arrival |
| Israeli or Iranian citizens | Barred from entry |
| Passport showing travel to Israel | May lead to refusal |
| Entering illegally | Fine or prison sentence |

Customs rules for goods are strict. Journalists must check they follow Syrian authority rules before they go.
Does a UAE residence help?
Not with the visa. No rule we read gives UAE residents a separate route into Syria. What residence protects is your return, and airlines check it. Keep it valid while you are away.
If you hold a Syrian passport and live in the UAE, see Dubai visa for Syrians for family visits to the UAE.
What we look at before filing
- Passport: three months past arrival, no damage, no stamps that cause refusal
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
- Why you are going, plus any host or employer letter
- The route you plan and your way back
Syria's mission in the UAE
The Syrian Arab Republic appears on the foreign ministry's list of missions in the UAE. A Syrian government page on the services offered here was not readable for us. Take passport and document questions to the mission.
How it works with us
Send the passport page and your reason for travel. An adviser checks the live e-visa rules and tells you if we can file for you. If we can, one total price is confirmed before you pay, and our team prepares and checks the application. We are a private visa service. Syrian authorities decide on every visa and entry.
Should the e-visa be refused, our side of the money is handled in writing: before payment the adviser states which part of our price, if any, is returned.
