A Bulgaria visa for UAE residents is a Schengen short-stay (type C) visa, filed through VFS Global by appointment. The adult fee is EUR 90. VFS gives an average decision time of 15 calendar days at the consulate, extendable to 30. Whether you need it depends on your passport. UAE residence only decides where you file.
What changed with Schengen
Bulgaria and Romania became full Schengen members on , after land border checks were lifted. Air and sea checks went earlier, on . For a visa applicant that means one thing: the sticker from Bulgaria is valid across the area, and the 90 days in any 180 count for all of it, not only Bulgaria.

Where you file in the UAE
There are two Bulgarian missions in the UAE: the Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai. The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry's UAE page splits the work like this:
- Short-stay type C visas are filed through VFS Global.
- Long-term type D visas and exceptional cases are handled by the Consulate General in Dubai.
- Family members of Bulgarian and EU citizens can file a short-stay application in person at the consular section after booking by e-mail.
- Applications for visas, Bulgarian ID and notary stamping are accepted only with a prior appointment.
VFS Global's page for Bulgaria in the UAE gives the same split and tells long-term applicants to apply directly at the embassy or consulate. We could not open VFS's appointment page itself (it blocked our check), so book through the link on the Bulgarian ministry's page and not through ads.

What Dubai agencies charge for Bulgaria
Agencies publish about AED 325 to AED 850 for Bulgaria visa help (published prices of 2 Dubai agencies, checked ). One of the two says consulate fees are charged separately. This is what other companies charge, not our price.
Processing time
VFS Global Bulgaria says the average processing time is 15 calendar days at the consulate, and it may extend to 30 calendar days case by case. The EU baseline is 15 days, up to 45. Apply no earlier than 6 months before travel and no later than 15 days before. Book your slot early.
What to prepare
- Passport with blank pages and validity past your exit from Schengen.
- UAE residence visa and Emirates ID valid past your return.
- Signed application form and photo.
- Travel medical insurance, at least EUR 30,000, valid across Schengen.
- Flight reservation and a hotel booking for every night.
- Recent bank statements.
- Employer letter or salary certificate with approved leave.
- An invitation if you visit a person or a property you own. VFS lists private, property owner, medical treatment, cultural and professional visits as separate tourist-type categories, each with its own checklist.
Pick the checklist for your purpose. A holiday file and a property-owner file ask for different papers.
Steps
- Count your nights across Schengen. Most nights in Bulgaria means a Bulgarian file.
- Open the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry's UAE page and follow its link to VFS Global.
- Choose the visa purpose and download that checklist.
- Book an appointment. Files are accepted by appointment only.
- Attend, hand in the papers and give fingerprints.
- Wait for the decision, then collect the passport.
Common refusal reasons
- Wrong state. More nights in Greece or Romania than in Bulgaria.
- A checklist for the wrong purpose. A tourist checklist for a property visit.
- Weak return ties. Residence visa ending soon, no leave letter.
- Insurance gaps that do not cover every night.
- Hotel bookings that do not match the dates on the form.
Residents of other nationalities
