The Republic of the Congo, the country with Brazzaville as its capital, asks for a visa before you travel, according to the UK government. At the border you also need proof of yellow fever and polio vaccination. We check your passport and papers and tell you what is confirmed and what is not.

E-visa plans
Congo has talked about an e-visa and an electronic travel authorisation for several years. Media reports say a test platform was found online and that a visa waiver for African travellers is planned for early next year. No government page we could open confirms either. If you read about a launch, check the date and the web address on a government source before you pay.
What we could not confirm
The UK page gives no visa fee, no processing time and no list of nationalities that skip the visa. We found no official page for a Congolese embassy in the UAE, so we cannot say where UAE residents file today. Anyone who quotes a fixed price and a fixed timeline should show you the official source for both.
Where the risk is
The UK updated its advice on . It advises against all travel within 50km of the Congo to Central African Republic border in Likouala Region. Next door, the UK advises against travel to large parts of DR Congo. See our DR Congo page before you plan a day trip across the river.
