Whether you need a visa for Ecuador depends on your passport. Ecuador's foreign ministry publishes a list of nationalities that must present a visa, and a UAE residence permit is not mentioned on it. If you are on the list, you need a consular file before you fly.
Which passports are on the list
The ministry list includes India, the Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Cameroon, Cuba, Eritrea and China, among others. If your passport is not listed, you travel as a tourist without a visa. Airlines in Dubai still check your onward ticket.
What the visa file asks for
This is the checklist on the ministry's consulate page for the tourist visa (the page we read belongs to the Caracas post, so another post can differ):
- Passport valid at least 6 months.
- Criminal record certificate from your home country and any country you lived in during the last 5 years, valid 180 days, apostilled or legalised.
- Application form and a passport photo.
- Bank statements for the last 3 months. The page asks for one Ecuador basic salary per month of stay, put at USD 1,380 for 90 days.
- A return flight booking.

Time and embassy
The ministry advises starting 3 or 4 weeks before travel. An incomplete file is cancelled and you start again. Ecuador inaugurated an embassy in Abu Dhabi, reported on . We do not know which services it offers.
