A wife visa in Abu Dhabi is a family residence filed through ICP, because Abu Dhabi residence files sit with ICP rather than Dubai's GDRFA. You need a monthly income of AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 if your employer provides housing. ICP charges AED 100 to apply, AED 100 per year of issuance and AED 100 in smart service fees, and states 2 days to process.
The same rules cover a husband and children. If your own visa is a Dubai visa, the family file goes to GDRFA instead: see the spouse visa in Dubai page.
Who an Abu Dhabi resident can sponsor
ICP's issuing residency page and u.ae list the same family:
- Wife or husband.
- Sons under 25 and unmarried daughters.
- Children with special needs, of any age.
- First-degree relatives, if you hold a Green residence.
Parents and other relatives go through a separate humanitarian route. ICP lists a guarantee for humanitarian cases of AED 5,000 per person, capped at AED 15,000. For your own Abu Dhabi residence, see residence visa in Abu Dhabi.
The salary rule, in ICP's words
ICP writes it more clearly than the other official pages: a "minimum monthly income of AED 3,000 plus employer-provided housing, or AED 4,000 if housing is not provided". So if you rent your own flat in Khalifa City or on Reem Island, you need AED 4,000. If your company houses you, AED 3,000 is enough.
Housing must be "adequate" and "in proportion to the property's capacity", owned or rented. The family visa salary requirement page compares the ICP, GDRFA and u.ae wording.

ICP's fee table on the issuance page is not split by category, so check the total on the payment screen before you pay. The medical test and health insurance are priced separately in Abu Dhabi and are not on the ICP page.
What agencies charge
We found no published price range from Abu Dhabi agencies. Dubai firms publish about AED 2,000 to AED 6,500 per spouse for a first visa, all-in (cost guides of 4 Dubai firms, checked ), mostly for Dubai files. Treat that as a rough guide only.
How the Abu Dhabi route differs from Dubai
The family rules are federal, so most things match. These are the differences the official pages show.
| Abu Dhabi (ICP) | Dubai (GDRFA) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you file | ICP smart services | GDRFA smart services |
| Fee structure | AED 100 application, AED 100 per year, AED 100 smart | AED 200 entry permit plus VAT, AED 200 residence, small add-ons |
| Inside the country | AED 500 status change | AED 500 inside the country fee |
| Processing | 2 days | 48 hours |
| Documents named | Utility bill, employment certificate showing income and housing, health insurance | Contract, salary certificate, certified marriage contract |
| Grace period after expiry | Set by category on ICP's renewal page | 60 days |

Documents checklist
- Spouse's passport and a recent photo
- Attested marriage contract (proof of kinship)
- Children's attested birth certificates, if they come too
- Water or electricity bill for your home
- Employment certificate showing your income and housing
- Valid health insurance for each family member
- Father's no objection letter, if the wife sponsors the children (GDRFA lists it; ICP may ask too)
A wife sponsoring a husband uses the same list: the husband visa page explains the differences for that case. A marriage certificate from abroad needs the UAE embassy stamp in that country and then MOFA: see marriage certificate attestation.
Processing time
ICP states 2 days for issuance and for renewal. A spouse who enters on an entry permit must finish the residence within 60 days of arrival, or overstay fines of AED 50 a day start.
Validity and grace periods
The family residence matches your own permit and cannot go past it. ICP's renewal page sets grace periods by category: 180 days for families of Golden, Green and Blue residence holders, 60 days for permits issued with a guarantor or host, and 30 days for other categories. Check which one your file falls under. A family member who stays outside the UAE for more than 180 days in a row loses the residence, unless exempt.
Common refusal reasons
- Using the AED 3,000 figure without employer-provided housing.
- A marriage certificate with no UAE embassy or MOFA stamp.
- No valid health insurance for the spouse.
- A utility bill or lease in someone else's name.
- Filing with ICP when your own residence was issued in Dubai.
How it works with us
Send your Emirates ID or residence details and your wife's or husband's passport on WhatsApp, or through the form on this page. A visa adviser checks that your file is an Abu Dhabi one, that your income fits the ICP rule and that the marriage certificate is fully attested. You get one total price before paying, with the ICP fees shown separately. The team prepares the ICP application, follows up on any request for more papers and tells you when the medical and Emirates ID are due. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, and ICP alone decides the file.
If ICP rejects the application, it keeps its government fees. Before you pay, your adviser puts in writing which part of our total, if any, is refunded.
