Family visa for Indians in Dubai

If you live and work in Dubai on an Indian passport, you can sponsor your wife or husband and children from India once you earn AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with company housing.

Sponsor in the UAE, salary from AED 4,000

Last updated

If you live in Dubai on an Indian passport and earn at least AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 with company housing, you can sponsor your wife or husband, sons under 25 and unmarried daughters from India. The Indian marriage and birth certificates must be attested by the UAE embassy or consulate in India and by MOFA. GDRFA states 48 hours for the entry permit.

The rules are the same for every nationality. What changes for Indian families is the paperwork from India and the choice between a visit first or a residence entry permit.

Who you can sponsor from India

Papers from India: attestation first

This is where most Indian family files lose time. GDRFA and ICP accept certificates issued in India only after attestation.

  1. The Indian side certifies the document first. The UAE pages we read do not list the Indian offices involved, so check with the issuing authority in India.
  2. The UAE embassy or consulate in India legalises it.
  3. MOFA in the UAE adds the final stamp, AED 150 per personal document.

A wife and two children means three certificates: one marriage certificate and two birth certificates. Start this before you file anything in Dubai. The full chain is on the marriage certificate attestation page.

Visit first, or residence straight away

Many Indian families fly in on a visit visa and switch later. That works, but it is not the cheaper path.

Family visit visa Family residence entry permit
Purpose A stay as guests Moving to live in Dubai
Sponsor salary AED 4,000 for first-degree relatives on ICP AED 4,000, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation
Deposit ICP guarantee AED 1,000 single entry None listed for spouse and children
Stay 30, 60 or 90 days 60 days from entry to finish the residence
Switching to residence Inside the country fee AED 500 at GDRFA Not needed

An Indian passport also needs a visa to visit at all. India is on MOFA's visa required list, so a 14-day visa on arrival only works with a US visa or green card, or a UK or EU residence visa. Read Dubai visa for Indian families for short trips.

Fees for a spouse from India

GDRFA and ICP fees Amount
Family entry permit AED 200 plus 5% VAT
Residence issuance AED 200, plus AED 10 and AED 10, plus AED 20 delivery
Medical test in Dubai, 24 hours AED 270
Emirates ID AED 100 per year plus AED 100 smart service
MOFA attestation AED 150 per document

What Dubai agencies charge

Dubai firms publish about AED 2,000 to AED 6,500 per spouse for a first visa, all-in (cost guides of 4 Dubai firms, checked ). Most include medical, Emirates ID and insurance. Typing alone runs about AED 100 to AED 400 per application.

Documents checklist

From you, the sponsor

  • Passport and UAE residence details
  • Employment contract and salary certificate
  • Lease or tenancy for your Dubai home, and a water or electricity bill
  • Father's no objection letter, if the wife sponsors the children

From India

  • Spouse's and children's passports, valid at least 6 months
  • Photos on a white background
  • Attested marriage certificate
  • Attested birth certificate for each child

In Dubai

  • Medical result for members 18 and over
  • Valid health insurance

Processing time

GDRFA states 48 hours for the family entry permit and 48 hours for the residence. Parents on the humanitarian route take 14 days. Attestation in India is the slow part, and no official page gives a time for it.

A baby born in Dubai

Indian parents have 120 days from the birth to arrange the birth certificate, passport, Emirates ID and visa. The UAE birth certificate is attested by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and MOFA. The list includes a passport, so apply for the baby's Indian passport early in that window.

Common refusal reasons

  • Salary on the certificate below AED 4,000 when you rent your own flat.
  • Indian certificates missing the UAE embassy or consulate stamp.
  • Name spellings that differ between the certificate and the passport.
  • A son over 25 filed as a regular dependant.
  • Housing too small for the family.

How it works with us

Send your passport copy, your salary figure and the passports of the family in India on WhatsApp, or use the form on this page. A visa adviser checks whether the standard route or the humanitarian route applies, and which Indian certificates still need attesting. You get one total price before you pay, with government fees on their own line. The team files the entry permit, books the medical and follows the residence through to the Emirates ID. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, and GDRFA or ICP decides the application.

If GDRFA refuses the file, the government fees are not returned by the authority. Your adviser tells you in writing, before payment, what part of our total, if any, you get back.

Questions people ask

Can I bring my wife from India to Dubai on a family visa?

Yes, if you hold a UAE residence visa and earn at least AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus housing from your employer. You need your attested Indian marriage certificate, a lease for suitable housing and your salary certificate or contract.

Does my Indian marriage certificate need attestation for Dubai?

Yes. A marriage certificate issued in India must be attested by the UAE embassy or consulate in India and then by MOFA in the UAE, which charges AED 150 per personal document. The Indian side of the chain comes first.

Should my family come on a visit visa first or straight on a residence entry permit?

For a move, the family entry permit is the direct route: they enter on it and have 60 days to finish the residence. A visit visa means a status change inside the UAE later, and GDRFA adds an inside the country fee of AED 500 for that.

My child was born in Dubai to Indian parents. What is the deadline?

u.ae gives residents 120 days from the birth to sort out the birth certificate, passport, Emirates ID and visa. That list includes the baby's passport, so start the Indian passport application soon after the birth.

Can an Indian woman working in Dubai sponsor her husband?

Yes. GDRFA allows both male and female residents to sponsor family, including a husband, with the same salary rule on the official pages. For the children, GDRFA asks for the father's no objection letter when the wife is the sponsor.

Can I sponsor my parents from India for residence in Dubai?

Yes, through GDRFA's humanitarian cases service. It asks for a salary of at least AED 10,000 a month, an attested tenancy that suits the family and 3 months of bank statements, plus a guarantee of AED 5,000 per request.
