Most UAE residents need a visa before flying to Taiwan. The Bureau of Consular Affairs does not list the UAE among its visa-exempt countries, and a residence permit changes nothing. Filipino passports get 14 days visa-free. Other passports apply for a visitor visa through Taiwan's office in Dubai, at US$50 for a single entry. We pick the route and prepare the file.
Three routes, and who gets which
Taiwan runs three entry routes that matter to people in Dubai. Which one you get depends on the passport in your hand.
- Visa-exempt entry. A short list of nationalities walk in. For Filipino passports it is 14 days, valid until according to the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Oman is on the list at 14 days too. The UAE is not.
- Online travel authorization. A certificate for citizens of India, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos who also hold a qualifying visa or residence card from another country.
- Visitor visa. Everyone else, from a mission abroad. In the UAE that mission is The Commercial Office of Taipei, Dubai, U.A.E., which is how the Bureau lists it.
Visa-exempt entry for Filipino passports
Filipino residents of the UAE are the group that most often asks about this. The Bureau of Consular Affairs page, updated on , sets conditions on top of the 14 days:
- A passport valid for at least six months on the day you enter.
- A confirmed return ticket, or an onward ticket with a visa for the next country, and a confirmed seat on the departure flight.
- Proof of a hotel booking, the host or sponsor's contact details and enough funds.
- No crew or service personnel boarding to report for duty.
The days count from the day after arrival and cannot be extended. A visa-free entry also cannot be turned into a visa-based stay, except in cases such as serious illness or a natural disaster, or for some white-collar work permits. Philippine passport holders are not included in the work-visa conversion.
The online authorization and why UAE residence does not qualify
The certificate is a good option for the right person. It is valid for 90 days, allows several entries and gives up to 30 days on each stay. The catch is the document you must already hold.
Under the Bureau's rules you need a valid or recently expired visa or residence card of Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, a Schengen country, the United Kingdom or the United States. Recently expired means under 10 years before you arrive in Taiwan. A UAE residence permit is not on that list.
That page carries a date in its text. Check the Bureau's current page before you rely on it, or ask us to.

The pages we read do not state a processing time for visitor visas, and we will not guess. Ask for the office's current timing when you book, and keep your flight changeable until the visa is in the passport.
What Dubai agencies charge
Dubai visa agencies publish about AED 150 to AED 550 for Taiwan visa help (published prices of 2 Dubai agencies, checked ). One of them says its price includes the visa processing fee charged by the office and its own handling. Two agencies is a thin sample, so treat the range as a guide and ask what is inside a quote before you compare.
Mistakes we see on Taiwan files
- Assuming a Dubai residence works like Georgia's. Taiwan does not name UAE residents in any rule we read.
- Booking before the visa arrives, then discovering the passport has under six months left.
- Using a Filipino visa-free entry for a stay that turns into work.
- Leaving out the onward ticket. Even exempt travellers must show a confirmed seat out.
- Using the online certificate with only a UAE residence card.
How it works with us
Send a passport copy and your dates on WhatsApp or through the form here. An adviser reads Taiwan's lists for your passport and says which route applies. If a visitor visa is needed, we fill in the form with you, check the tickets and funds proof, and lodge the file with the Dubai office. You see one total price before you pay. DubaiVisaDesk.com is a private visa service, and Taiwan's authorities decide the application.
Taiwan's visa fee is not refunded after a refusal. Before you pay, your adviser puts in writing what part of our price, if any, would come back.
Other East Asia trips
Going on to Seoul or Tokyo? The South Korea and Japan pages cover those rules. Hong Kong is a separate system, see Hong Kong visa from Dubai. The China visa for UAE residents page covers the mainland, and Singapore is a short flight away. All options sit under visas from Dubai.
